Angelina Jolie On ‘Very Heavy’ Battles With Brad Pitt In ‘By The Sea’ & Shocker On Acting Future [Video]

Angelina Jolie had a very heavy experience working with husband Brad Pitt on a new film that she both directed and wrote. Although Angelina has worked with Brad before, Jolie revealed that the challenge came from the scenes where the couple argue, reported E! News.

By the Sea is partly based on the dynamics between Angelina and Pitt.

“[The movie is about] a deeply unhappy couple on vacation in France who becomes involved with a pair of newlyweds staying at their seaside inn.”

Angelina and Brad portray that couple, and Jolie admitted that the arguments made it sometimes difficult to sustain the intensity.

“I’d be directing myself and him in a scene where we’re having a fight, and I’d be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you’re frustrated with each other—it was very heavy,” said the actress.

But despite the challenges, Angelina emphasized that she and Brad are proud of their courage in taking on the movie.

“[It is] an art film, the kind of movie that I like to see but not something I’m usually cast in. We’re proud of ourselves for being brave enough to try it. I think By the Sea was the hardest film for me because it wasn’t [issue-driven]. It’s something I probably won’t do very much of.”

For Jolie, writing films has become a passion. But Angelina revealed that she recently decided to direct, as well as write and sometimes act, because she wanted to make sure the movie stayed true to her vision, reported Us Weekly.

Jolie began her directing career with another very heavy film, a romance that took place during the Bosnian War, In the Land of Blood and Honey. After working so hard to craft a believable tale, Angelina felt worried that another director might not do it justice.

“The idea that somebody would take it and interpret it — and possibly interpret it the wrong way — scared me,” explained Jolie. “So by default, I chose to direct it myself.”

And that was the same theory that made her decide to write, direct, and act in By the Sea with Brad.

“It’s probably not an accident that the films that I care about happen to be about issues that matter to me, stories that I want to tell. If you’re going to spend two years of your life on something it has to matter to you, you have to be passionate about it,” said Angelina of the drama about marriage.

Adding a twist to the tale, Jolie and Brad did the movie while honeymooning, making it awkward for the crew who watched them fight on set while the cameras were rolling.

“We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don’t know where to stand or where to look,” laughed Jolie.

As for whether she’ll spend more time directing or acting in the future, Angelina feels that she’s more content as a director.

“What I realized [years ago] is that I never loved acting,” revealed Jolie. “To me the strangest thing is that I’ve just spent the majority of my life in one aspect of this business, and because I was fortunate enough to become successful I never questioned whether I felt at home, and found out later in life that I’m much happier directing.”

But fans of the couple need not fear that their filmed “very heavy” fight scenes means problems in their marriage.

As the Inquisitr reported, Brad now is sporting a tattoo that honors Angelina, and his doted-upon children. For Brad, that symbol, combining a cross with his family members’ initials, gives the actor the chance to display just how much he loves them.

The tattoo contains a cross with “A” for Angelina on one side and, on the other, “MPZSVK” for kids Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox.
