‘Attack On Titan’ Carves Its Way Onto PlayStation Consoles

The wildly popular anime series Attack on Titan is getting another video game adaption. This new game will be developed by Omega Force, the developers of such action games as Nintendo’s Hyrule Warriors, One Piece: Pirate Warriors, and Koei Tecmo Games’ cult favorite Dynasty Warriors according to Eurogamer.

On the Koei Tecmo Games official website, Hisashi Koinuma, president of Koei Tecmo, issued a statement expressing his enthusiasm for the company’s undertaking of this project.

“Having evolved from a manga/anime series to an internationally recognised brand, we were enchanted by the opportunity to create our own take on humanity’s last stand against these overwhelmingly powerful beings, the Titans.”

As of yet, the company has not announced an official title for the game, but has released a teaser trailer.

No hard date for the game’s release has been given, but according to IGN, Koei Tecmo’s closest estimate to when Attack on Titan will be released is sometime in 2016 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita. With the development of an Attack on Titan game, Koei Tecmo Games has filled their plate, as they also have recently announced development of a game called Arslan Warriors of Legend, which is based on a popular series of Japanese fantasy novellas.

Attack on Titan is the story of the last human nation on earth, 100 years after humanity was nearly wiped out by the clearly sexless but seemingly male gendered Titans. The Titans range from five meters high to taller than the walls of surrounding the nation, wear no clothes, and pose a threat to humans by consuming them. It is determined in Attack on Titan that the Titans have no need of sustenance, and must derive some perverse mindless pleasure from eating humans, as the Titans leave other animals alone. Humans live in class-based districts each surrounded by 50 meter high walls to protect against any potential attack from the nightmarish creatures. After 100 years of peace, the town of Shinganshina is destroyed by the Titans causing the humans to retreat behind a higher classed district’s walls. Eren Yeager witnesses his mother being eaten by one of the Titans, and to take vengeance upon the Titans, enlists in the military with his foster sister Mikasa Ackerman, and his childhood friend Armin Arlert.

The Attack on Titan manga came out in April 2012, and has been rapidly gaining popularity since. It was adapted into an anime, and its original run on Japanese television began on April 6, 2013 and ended September 28, 2013. Attack on Titan can currently be seen on American television at 3 a.m. on Adult Swim’s Toonami block. The series also has a live action adaptation which released worldwide on July 14 of this year.
