Rihanna Ditches SNL Dress Rehearsal, Angers Lorne Michaels
Pop superstar Rihanna didn’t show up for her final dress rehearsal on Saturday Night Live last night, a move that reportedly angered the show’s producers, including show creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels.
Sources close to the incident tell TMZ that Rihanna had her staff call the shows producers and tell them she wasn’t feeling well and would not appear for the dress rehearsal which is performed in front of a live studio audience directly before the live aired show.
Rihanna did however show up just a short time later and according to inside sources SNL staffers looked shocked when they realized that Rihanna didn’t appear to look sick at all.
Staffers say they can not remember the last time a singer failed to show up for the dress rehearsal because it is an extremely rare event.
It is believed that Rihanna had a doctor come to her dressing room before the show and that she was given a shot of penicillin before she took to the Saturday Night Live stage.
Taking over for Rihanna during the dress rehearsal was her choreographer who danced to her songs.
Rihanna’s camp in the meantime says the missed dress rehearsal is not the sign of a diva, as they point out Rihanna appeared in every other rehearsal for the show leading up to the dress rehearsal.
A source tells TMZ:
“Rihanna was sick and needed to save her voice for the live show.”
