Thompson Square Baby: Country Duo Announce They Are Expecting
There will soon be a Thompson Square baby, as the country duo have announced that they are expecting.
The couple, Keifer and Shawna Thompson, announced on Tuesday, via social media, that they would be welcoming their first child in January, after 16 years of marriage.
The “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not?” singers shared their exciting news alongside an adorable photo on Twitter. The picture show’s the parents-to-be both sipping on diet cokes, one that reads “Share a Coke with Dad” and the other reading, “Share a coke with Mom.” Keifer is also giving the camera a big thumbs up.

“We’re really, really excited,” Keifer, 39, told People Magazine during an exclusive interview. “We’ve been together for a long time and we’ve done a lot of things, and we just really felt there was something missing. We love what we do, we love the music business, but we didn’t want to deprive ourselves of having a family.”
While they still have several months to go before they welcome their new bundle of joy, they are already anticipating having to make some major changes to their touring lifestyle.
“We’re going to have to design a whole new bus!” Keifer said. “We’re going to need to turn one of the bunks into a crib, and we’ll need a changing area,” Shawna added. “It’s going to be interesting.”
Shawna also revealed that the strange pregnancy cravings everyone always talks about kicked in right away for her.
“I was eating strange combinations,” she laughed.
“That’s before she even knew,” added Keifer. “She was like, ‘I think I might need to go get a test because I just ate a cantaloupe followed by a pickle chaser.’ ”
From the way it sounds, they may not want to let Keifer name the baby… as Toothpaste Thompson has already been mentioned.
“I already got Thompson in there, so I said Shawna gets to pick the name as long as it’s not something crazy like these people in Hollywood do all the time. No Moonbeam for us!” Keifer said. “Though I think it would be fun … maybe we should go with something really weird and random. Toothpaste Thompson. That is a great alliteration — and we are songwriters, you know.”
Thompson Square has landed several number one hits including “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” and “If I Didn’t Have You,” E! Online reports, via MSN. In 2012, they took home the ACM Award and CMA Award for “Vocal Duo of the Year,” and in 2013, they managed to take home the same trophies at the ACM’s.
The pair released the single “Trans Am” earlier this year, which is the debut single off of their new album, set to be released this fall.
“It’s a very live feeling album. We want this album to reflect our live show. It’s full of tempo,” the duo said, according to Radio. “It’s very rocking. It’s just that much fun. We’re just so proud of it. It’s going to be a fun album to play live.”
