‘Scandal’ Teases For The Fall From Shonda Rhimes

Shonda Rhimes has a full plate launching a new season of Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and How to Get Away With Murder. All is very hectic in Shondaland.

After killing off McDreamy on Grey’s Anatomy, and accepting serious backlash, Rhimes is ready to move on to new seasons and new challenges for all of her characters. She has never been shy about blinsiding fans of Scandal with murder and mayhem that seems to come out of the blue, but all is fair in the life and loves of Olivia Pope.

Variety has revealed that Scandal will pick up shortly after the end of last season.

“They will deal with the aftermath of the world having ‘blown apart’ for key characters,” Rhimes said. “Murder will also pick up about a week after the end of its first season,” according to creator/showrunner Nowalk.

We also know that Tony Goldwyn, aka President Grant, will be directing Episode 2 of Season 5. The Daily Herald says that fans will get answers to many of the questions that were left at the end of Season 4. The big one is that Olivia and President Grant will finally be coming together.

“This was possible only because the First Lady Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) was exposed by Elizabeth North (Portia de Rossi) to have an association with Rowan Pope (Joe Morton). Elizabeth North won the President’s favor with this move, but fans are still unclear about what North is actually aiming for. Is she going after Mellie to finally penalize the President or is she really on the President’s side? Elizabeth North, however, got what she had been waiting for- she became the new Head of Staff for the White House.”

Shonda Rhimes has released a video that teases even more of Scandal, Season 5. The video shows Olivia and the president engaged in a passionate kiss on the balcony of the White House, with Etta James’ “At Last” playing in the background. It seems like a happy ending, but as the Latin Times says, this is Scandal, and nothing is ever as it seems.

The press has tried relentlessly to get more information about Scandal and the other shows from Shonda Rhimes, even peppering her with compliments.

“But when Scandal came on the air, it had been 40 years since a black woman started in a TV show. Now we have Empire, it seems like it’s all because of your success,” needled a reporter.

“You’re trying to make me say something,” retorted Rhimes. “It’s lovely things you’re saying, but I’m not answering it.”

Do you think Olivia and Fitz will finally be together on Scandal?
