‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ Fighter Squadron Trailer Sets Han Solo Vs Boba Fett

The promised Star Wars: Battlefront trailer featuring the new Fighter Squadron mode arrived Wednesday. Gamers can all look forward to dogfights starring X-Wings, Tie Fighters, A-Wings, and Tie Interceptors, along with other unannounced multiplayer gametypes when the title hits the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17.

Fighter Squadron will feature aerial battles in a 10 versus 10 setting, with AI-controlled ships joining in for up to 40 ships in the air at any given time. The gametype is a mix between deathmatch and objective, as the player’s goal is to reach 200 points earned from kills within the mode’s time limit. However, extra points can be earned by successfully escorting your side’s transport shuttle or destroying the other team’s shuttle before it reaches its destination.

“Visually, it’s extremely exhilarating,” said in a post on the Star Wars: Battlefront site. The sky is crawling with enemy ships, and you see sparks and explosions from ships about to be taken down. On top of that, you’ve got this great music, sound design, and gameplay, making the whole thing feel like an authentic Star Wars™ dogfight.”

Ships are equipped with laser cannons and missiles, plus a special ability depending on if you are playing for the Rebels or Empire. The A-Wing and X-Wing can activate shields so that they can tough it out through enemy fire, while the TIE Fighters and Interceptors can activate a speed boost to help them get in and out of trouble quickly.

Powerups are also scattered around the map for players to pick up. They are located in key areas that may take Battlefront players out of the main fight and require a bit of skill to obtain. Still, there are powerups for things like health boosts, weapon cooldown, and hero ships.

Hero ships also play a major role in Fighter Squadron, just as hero characters do in the Walker Assault mode for Star Wars: Battlefront. Only one for each side can be present at any time, but it does set up a clash between two characters who never got to battle it out in their ships in the movies.

“For the Rebels, the Hero starfighter is the Millennium Falcon. The Imperial team will get to pilot Slave-1, made famous by Jango and Boba Fett,” Peter Forsman explains.

Fighter Squadron joins Walker Assault and the team deathmatch mode, Blast, in Star Wars: Battlefront, but DICE has more multiplayer modes to reveal.

“In addition to Walker Assault and Blast, Star Wars Battlefront will feature immersive, fun-filled multiplayer modes including Supremacy, Drop Zone, Cargo and more to be announced in the months ahead,” DICE announced in a separate post on the game’s website.
