Abby Sutherland: Beauty Queen Killed In Car Crash

Abby Sutherland, a 20-year-old beauty queen from Indiana, was killed in a car accident on Saturday night. The vehicle she was in veered off the road, flipped over, and hit several trees. The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office pronounced Abby Sutherland dead at the scene of the crash.

According to the New York Daily News, Abby Sutherland was the reigning beauty queen champion of the Miss Crawford County pageant. She was scheduled to appear at the Indiana State Fair sometime in August before her life was cut tragically short.

The cause of the accident has not yet been explained. The person driving the vehicle has not been identified, but he or she survived the crash and was airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville.

“She loved everything about life, had so much to give, so much left ahead of her, she was amazing,” said Tigre Flannery, a friend of Abby Sutherland.

“Heaven has one more beautiful angel,” her brother Joshua Sutherland wrote on Facebook. “You will be greatly missed!!!!! Love you!!!!!!”

In response to the shocking death of the beauty queen, people have created heartfelt tributes to Abby Sutherland. An online dedication depicts Sutherland in her beauty queen dress with a halo drawn above her tiara with the caption “Holding her halo with her crown.” At the roadside where Abby Sutherland died, a white cross has been planted with the name “Abby” inscribed, along with flowers and a crown.

According to the Courier Journal, funeral arrangements have been made for Tuesday morning. The family has asked for donations to the Kosair Children’s Hospital in place of flowers.

Abby Sutherland had only just earned herself the beauty queen crown last month.

“She was just so excited when she won,” said Sutherland’s co-worker Katherine Morris. “It was such a big deal.”

“It was amazing, the shock on her face was priceless,” said her friend Tigre. “She earned it, she deserved it more than anyone I know.”


The pageant that crowned Abby Sutherland a beauty queen released a statement following her tragic death.

“There are no words that can express our sadness. Once you met Abby you felt as if you had just met a friend for life. Abby was a beautiful girl inside and out, with a kind soul and mega watt smile. Abby’s Miss Crawford County family is heartbroken over the loss of our dear friend.”

Friends say Abby Sutherland will be remembered for her positive attitude and her radiance as a beauty queen.
