‘Mad Max’ Trailer Full Of Stronghold Action, Oddly Named Characters

Mad Max is gearing up for its September release to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Warner Bros. Interactive and Avalanche Studios released a new trailer for the vehicular combat game meets third-person shooter that takes a look at the some of the strongholds and the colorful characters that inhabit them.

Avalanche, the studio behind the Just Cause series, is at Gamescom in Germany this week to show off Mad Max. The newly released trailer barely touches on the gameplay, but serves to setup the unique characters that Max will encounter as he deals with his own personal demons.

“In the new trailer, Max visits some of the game’s diverse strongholds and encounters a number of intriguing characters, including Jeet, Gutgash, Pink Eye and Deep Friah,” the trailer announcement reads. “In a world where Max faces both his internal and external enemies, these strongholds hold the pieces essential to the puzzle he tries to solve. Max will need to make some uneasy alliances as he prepares to take on merciless Wasteland tyrant, Scrotus.”

Well, “Scrotus” is definitely a…unique…name.

Mad Max smartly does not serve as a tie-in to the critically acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road move from earlier this summer. It is a stand-alone adventure unencumbered by the events and characters from the film.

Mad Max (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

That’s a trend we are seeing more of now after years of disastrous movie tie-ins that forced developers to shovel games out in questionable states just to ensure that it capitalized on the release of the movies. The Batman: Arkham series and the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront game are two others that also bank on an existing franchise’s name without directly tying into events from a movie.

Mad Max is currently scheduled for a September 1 release for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360 versions were canceled in March.

The game opens with Max being ambushed and left for dead in The Wasteland by Scrotus and his War Boys. With his prized Interceptor and supplies gone, the titular hero meets Chumbucket, a mechanic that also dished out pearls of wisdom. The two set out to build the ultimate car, the Magnum Opus, which can be upgraded and customized, to get revenge on Scrotus.

This customization carries over to other aspects of the game too such as armor and weapons. Hand-to-hand combat can go through various upgrades as well.
