As Jessica Alba’s Honest Sunscreen Complaints Go Viral, The Actress Speaks Out

Jessica Alba’s Honest Sunscreen has hit the market, but not in the way she expected. Since its release, customers who claimed to have used the product “liberally” took to Twitter with photographic “evidence” that the product doesn’t work.

Jessica co-founded Honest with the concept of purely organic products, and as a result, it was a hit among a consumer base looking for alternatives to chemical-heavy beauty and health products. After using the product, it turned out that consumers were not happy with the way the SPF 30 sunscreen worked.

One image released on Twitter showed a woman with a sunburn where a tan line should have been, and another showed a man’s bald head. The redness was rather clearly visible.

Alba linked to another web page on the site in response, where it was stated that the product had undergone “extensive third-party testing.” It also claimed that Jessica Alba’s Honest Sunscreen had passed all SPF 30 testing requirements with “the best score possible from the Environmental Working Group (EWG).”

Founders Alba and Gavigan have also replied to claims throughout social media.

“We want you to know that we hear you and we’re here for you. As always, we’ll do what it takes to make it right.”

Jessica also posted a picture on Instagram with an additional statement.

“Protecting our loved ones and yours is the reason we founded [Honest]. As parents, it pains us to hear that anyone has had a negative experience with our Sunscreen. We develop and use Honest Sunscreen to protect our own children – Honor, Haven, Luke, Evie, and Poppy – at the park, in the pool, outside, every day. As with everything we do, we take sun protection seriously here at Honest.”

These public posts may not be enough to salve the burns allegedly experienced by unhappy consumers using Jessica Alba‘s Honest Sunscreen. The product itself had allegedly been a victim of industry standards, with the FDA requiring the Zinc Oxide content to be up to 25 percent, but the percentage had been dropped to 9.3 percent. The Honest Company had to add other ingredients to make up for the lack of effectiveness, according to CBS News.

The Honest Company had even released a public announcement explaining how transparent they are about the content of their sunscreen, explaining how it’s all on the packaging.

It is unknown what the founders of Jessica Alba’s Honest Sunscreen are doing to make things right with consumers, or if it will be enough to repair the company’s already tarnished reputation.
