‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6: Andrew Lincoln Says Episode 1 Is Not What Fans Expect

Andrew Lincoln, who plays main character Rick Grimes in AMC’s zombie series, The Walking Dead, describes Season 6 as “big” and “ambitious.” But what does he really mean?

Recently, Andrew Lincoln sat down with Entertainment Weekly for a Walking Dead promotional shoot. As well as capturing some cheeky shots of Lincoln, Norman Reedus, and Melissa McBride, EW got the scoop on Episode 1 of Season 6.

According to Andrew Lincoln, showrunner Scott M. Gimple will pick up the Season 6 premiere of The Walking Dead close to where Season 5 left off. He also suggests the storytelling in Season 6 will be extraordinary with Gimple balancing 18 main storylines at once.

“I think the storytelling is astonishing. Scott has kind of picked up very much where we left off and he’s spinning 18 principal storylines in an incredibly complicated and cool way.”

While The Walking Dead is quite often known to pare some episodes down to just a few characters and to follow a single storyline, the thrill of 18 storylines being followed is something many fans are eager to see. Andrew Lincoln also warns Walking Dead fans that Episode 1 will be dramatically different to what they are expecting. Considering the episode will pick up close to where they left off, it will interesting to see how this will progress.

“Episode 1 is something that people are not going to expect. I certainly didn’t when I read it. And when we filmed it, it just grew and grew and it got deeper and deeper. And I think there are a couple of episodes this season that are certainly some of the best episodes I’ve read, maybe in a couple of seasons.”

As well as the expansive story lines expected in The Walking Dead, Season 6 include a huge amount of walkers. According to io9, there will be a total of 654 walkers in Episode 1 alone! This is the largest amount of walkers ever used on the show, so fans can expect an episode that will get their hearts pumping. Hopefully, no fan favorites will lose their lives with this many walkers present. Although, it is likely there will be casualties, and plenty of them.

Season 6 of AMC’s The Walking Dead will premiere on Sunday, October 11, 2015. This season will follow on the heels of AMC’s new companion series, Fear The Walking Dead.
