Cecil The Lion Immortalized As A Beanie Baby

Beanie Babies, the popular 90s stuffed animals, will have a new addition to the family. According to reports, Ty Inc., maker of the stuffed animals, have announced that they will be immortalizing Cecil the lion through a Beanie Baby in his likeness. The toy company announced the news through a tweet.

The death of Cecil the lion sparked outrage, with plenty of people condemning Dr. Walter Palmer who took the life of Cecil with a bow and arrow for sport.

According to Ty Inc., all profits from sales of Cecil the lion Beanie Babies will go directly to University of Oxford’s Wildlife Conservation Unit, which had been tracking Cecil the lion since 2008, as Fortune reports.

The founder and chairman of Ty Inc. talked to Chicago Tribune regarding the new Cecil the lion Beanie Babies.

“Hopefully, this special Beanie Baby will raise awareness for animal conservation and give comfort to all saddened by the loss of Cecil.”

This isn’t the first time that Ty Inc. supported a good cause. In 2004, as reported by Chicago Tribune, the company created some Beanie Babies for the WWF (World Wildlife Federation). They have also made special Beanie Babies for aquariums and zoos.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, HTC also commemorated Cecil the lion with a gold-plated phone that retails for $2,462. The phone has an engraving of Cecil the lion on the back, with the words “For Cecil and his Kingdom.” Ten percent of sales will reportedly be donated to the Friends of Hwange charity, which is located where Cecil was killed.

Cecil the lion Beanie Babies will be available in stores this September for $5.99 each.
