Lady Gaga Has A Surprise For Tony Bennett On His 89th Birthday

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett paired up and created a wonderful album, titled Cheek to Cheek, and followed the album release with a seven month sold-out concert tour. On Saturday, the duo took to the stage in Washington for their final performance of the tour, and since Tony Bennett’s birthday was that following Monday, Lady Gaga wanted a surprise for Tony to help celebrate his 89th birthday. As a surprise for Tony, Gaga gave his a mountainous cake and sang him happy birthday, encouraging the audience to join her, according to USA Today.

Before the surprise for Tony, Gaga took to Instagram to share the surprise she had in store for him. The picture shows Gaga standing next to the ginormous cake with the caption “When the birthday cake you got Tony is too big for Instagram!”

The surprise cake for Tony was based off a cake that was made for President John F. Kennedy’s birthday — yes, that same cake that Marilyn Monroe famously sang “Happy Birthday Mr. President” over. Gaga put her own twist on the surprise for Tony, though, adding figurines of their beloved pets, Happy and Asia, on it with them. The cake was created by Charm City Cake’s Duff Goldman.

After Bennett’s surprise, he posted a photo of him and Gaga saying as follows.

“Finishing off our sold out Cheek to Cheek Tour at the wonderful Kennedy Center tonight. Hope we can tour again. Lady is a great person and a great performer.”

According to the Daily Mail,Bennett said he knew moments after meeting Gaga that he wanted to collaborate with her. He told Parade as follows.

“The first thing I said was ‘Let’s do an album together.’ And she said, ‘Okay.’ That quick, I just love what she did on this album. She’s up there with Ella Fitzgerald, who was the greatest singer in the world.”

Although Gaga’s tour is over, it doesn’t mean that she will be stopping anytime soon. Gaga is now gearing up to star in the new season of the FX series American Horror Story: Hotel, which premiers in October. Gaga has already given her social media followers a small look into her part in the series, posting her script that was covered in blood.

On top of the show, Gaga is engaged to Taylor Kinney, has been planning a wedding, and is working on her fifth studio album with producer RedOne and Giorgio Moroder.
