Girl Saves Mother, Baby: 5-Year-Old Girl Exits Car, Climbs 40-Foot Embankment After Crash, Saves Family

A girl saves her mother and her baby brother after a car accident in Alberta by flagging down nearby drivers in a story that is going viral on the internet this weekend. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Angela, Lexi, and Peter Shymanski were traveling from Calgary to their home in Prince George at the time of the crash.

According to the Canada Journal, 5-year-old Lexi Shymanski is being called a hero after her quick-thinking saved the lives of both her mom, Angela, and her younger brother, Peter. Angela passed out behind the wheel, losing control of their SUV. The SUV then crashed into a tree, before sliding down a 40-foot embankment. While Angela remained unconscious and Peter suffered serious injuries, Lexi only suffered minor injuries and was able to get help. How she did it, however, is truly amazing.

“After realizing that the crash could not be seen from the roadside in Alberta, the quick-thinking youngster then managed to escape from the vehicle and flagged down drivers on the roadside. Without her heroic actions, it is thought that her mother and sibling could have lost their lives or been paralyzed for life.”

The girl who saved her mother and her brother managed to get herself out of her safety seat and up the cliff to the roadway to get help. Everyone is talking about just how amazing this little girl is and how brave she was during a scary time. Angela is still shocked by Lexi’s actions — and is so thankful that Lexi was able to get help.

“It’s crazy. I can only remember one or two times where she got out of her five-point harness previously. She somehow got out, adrenaline or whatever, and barefoot hiked up the embankment. The guy who came to see us in the hospital, he said the medics and the firemen needed ropes to get up and down that embankment, and she did it barefoot. It was only because she came up and flagged people down that anybody would have stopped,” recalled Angela Shymanski, who is so proud of Lexi and so thankful that her daughter knew exactly what to do.

The girl who saved her mother and her brother has been having nightmares since the crash. Angela and Peter are extremely lucky to be alive.

According to an update by WetPaint, Angela and Peter were rescued from the SUV by emergency personnel and flown to Alberta Hospital. Ten-week-old Peter had swelling and bleeding in his brain and needed to have emergency surgery. While he is doing better, Angela is still recovering. She is in a wheelchair and is in a good deal of discomfort.

“Angela suffered the brunt of the physical trauma. The mom-of-two, who was resuscitated twice between the crash and her Alberta hospital arrival, had multiple fractures and broken ribs along with internal bleeding. Now she’s using a wheelchair to get around and is dealing with nerve damage in her leg.”

Lexi somehow walked away from the crash with just a small scratch on her chin and a soft tissue injury on her neck.

It is unclear what caused Angela to pass out behind the wheel.
