MH370 Mystery: Suspected Wing Flap Arrives At French Military Test Facility For Analysis

Following the discovery of what is thought to be debris from the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, one of the wing flaps recovered from the sea was transported to a French military testing facility. According to an ABC News report, the flap – which is also known as a flaperon, measures nearly 8-foot across and has finally reached the testing facility and would soon undergo tests to determine its origin. The large chunk of the wing was brought on a truck that was accompanied by a police motorcade, the report added.

The wing flap, which many experts dubbed to be from a Boeing 777 – the same aircraft type as the MH370, will be analyzed by experts who would be able to conclusively determine if the chunk was a part of the lost aircraft which went missing on March 8, 2014. Incidentally, MH370 is the only Boeing 777 unaccounted for and for the same reason, chances are high that the debris is indeed from the missing plane. Experts are expected to check the debris and figure out the reason for its breakage. They would also test the debris to look for traces of explosives. This is to find whether the aircraft was deliberately downed using explosives.

There were 239 people on board the MH370 – all of whom are now presumed dead.

Meanwhile, the experts are expected to start their inquiry starting Wednesday. This has been confirmed by an official from the Paris prosecutor’s office. In addition to that, a legal expert from the investigating team and French investigation agency BEA would meet Malaysian officials.

It was earlier this week that a breakthrough came forward in the case of the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370. Chunks of what was evidently parts of an aircraft were found off the coast of St. Andre on Reunion Islands in western Indian Ocean. The location is around 380 nautical miles off the coast of Madagascar.

Dubbed as one of the most mysterious aviation disasters of all times, there is still no clarity as to what exactly happened to the aircraft a few hours after it took off from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Meanwhile, it is also be said that even if the parts of the debris are positively identified to be from the MH370, it would still be difficult to figure out what the circumstances were that lead to the disappearance of the flight well over a year ago.
