Dorinda Medley Says ‘RHONY’ Won’t Destroy Relationship With John Mahdessian

Dorinda Medley is vowing that being on The Real Housewives of New York City won’t mean an end to her relationship with John Mahdessian. In an interview with BravoTV.com, posted on Friday, the Real Housewives newcomer talked about the Real Housewives“curse” when it comes to romantic relationships and how she plans on not becoming a victim of it.

Dorinda, who helped John celebrate his 50th birthday at a swanky party earlier in the week, admitted that at the beginning of the seventh season, she was warned that her relationship with boyfriend John will suffer. Yet Dorinda believes that if the relationship fails, it would’ve failed even if the cameras weren’t there, just not perhaps as quickly.

“Someone said to me at the beginning of the season, ‘You’re going to get the Bravo curse.’ I think whatever’s going on in your life, good or bad, it accelerates it. Listen, I went in there knowing I love John. I’m not going to break up with him because of Bravo. If God forbid we broke up, it would be because we broke up.”

John agreed that the love he has for Dorinda is strong enough to withstand the pressures and scrutiny of reality TV. He also acknowledged that the Real Housewives show has portrayed him in a negative light.

“I love Dorinda and this is my partner and this is my best friend. No one knows the love that we have so I never doubted it. Did they throw us a couple curve balls? Absolutely. Did I strike out? Not at all. I knocked it out of the park, because look at who I’m sitting next to.”

Early on in the season, Dorinda Medley’s relationship with John Mahdessian came under scrutiny. Dorinda admitted that her grown daughter from a previous relationship, Hannah, with whom she lives with and is very close to, had some reservations about John. Over dinner one night, when John suggested to Dorinda that she be more independent from Hannah, Dorinda angrily lashed out at him. In a blog post, Dorinda admitted that she and John sometimes argue over her dedication to Hannah.

“So, as you may have noticed, John and I sometimes have strong discussions about it, and it’s sometimes difficult for him to understand the constant juggling act I have to do. But, if he loves me enough, and trusts I love him too, love will prevail. (Right?)…Was I a bit too harsh? Maybe. Was I giving him subtle bailout after subtle bailout every time he approached the subject? Yes. There’s only so much you can put up with until you blow a gasket. I blew two. And lost my appetite. (Glad he didn’t lose his, though. #eyeroll) I hope you didn’t!”

Later on in The Real Housewives of New York City, John got a little too touchy with Sonja Morgan and Kristen Taekman while dancing with them. In a blog post, Dorinda Medley said that John was simply having fun.

“I have said it before, and I will say it again. John likes to be fun and act up. John likes people and likes to kid around with everyone. His sense of humor might not be that common around these ladies, but John is an affectionate guy, and to date him, you have to understand that. Rule #1: If a man is going to cheat on you, it’s not going to be at a cocktail party you’re hosting. If he cheats, it’ll be on a Thursday afternoon, during lunch, in some random hotel. My feeling is that for one night–please, just please–can you not?!”
