MLB Trade Rumors: Toronto Blue Jays Acquire Ben Revere?

The Toronto Blue Jays appear to continue their monstrous trade deadline as they have swung their third major trade, acquiring outfielder Ben Revere from the Philadelphia Phillies, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.

With the addition of Revere, it likely caps off one of the most memorable trade deadlines for any team in recent memory. As the Jays attempt to get into the postseason, they will know try to do so with a new All-Star shortstop, left-handed ace pitcher, and speedy center fielder under their retractable roof.

Revere, 27, is having a nice season at the plate as he is hitting.298 with one HR and 26 RBI to go along with 24 SB. Never considered much of a power threat, Revere has just three career HR and did not hit any during his first four seasons in the Major Leagues. Also, while his speed would lead many to believe that he is a premier defender, he has generally been regarded as below average. Yet, his UZR and Defense Runs Saved stats have taken a turn for the better in 2015.

Slotting a prototypical left-handed lead-off hitter at the top of their primarily right-handed line up will likely help the Jays heading down the stretch. Although he would likely not be the full-time starter but rather form a platoon with the right-handed hitting Kevin Pillar. But it appears that a trade north of the border is not yet complete.

According to Chris Cotillo of SB Nation, there are sources who believe that a trade between both sides is not complete.

That certainly would put a damper on things if the proposed trade falls through. It would not be the first time that a trade involving an outfielder this week does not get completed. A proposed trade sending Carlos Gomez to the New York Mets in exchange for pitcher Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores broke down and was heavily scrutinized.

The Mets reportedly did not like what they saw in Gomez’s medicals, thus leading to the trade breaking down. With just over an hour remaining before the deadline, the Blue Jays better hope that everybody’s medicals and physicals are clear.
