San Diego Padres Trade Rumors: Huge Trades With New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, And Houston Astros Brewing

San Diego Padres trade rumors may dominate Friday (July 31). Padres trade rumors link the team to the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, and Houston Astros with just hours left to make deals before the non-waiver deadline. A report from Ken Rosenthal at FOX Sports underscores just how active the Padres may become, especially with a lot of assets on the roster that have been made available. A bidding war has likely already begun for several All-Star players.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, something “big” is in the works between the Padres and the Astros. Rumors have it including closer Craig Kimbrel going to the Astros in exchange for highly-touted pitching prospect Mark Appel. Other components of the deal could include starting pitcher Tyson Ross going to the Astros and center fielder Jake Marisnick going back to the Padres. This might also be just one of several deals the Padres are ready to make.

Other San Diego Padres trade rumors as of Friday morning include players like Justin Upton, Andrew Cashner, Ian Kennedy, James Shields, Yonder Alonso, Brandon Maurer, Shawn Kelley, and Jaquin Benoit being made available. By the time 4 p.m. ET rolls around on Friday afternoon, the 40-man roster in San Diego could look completely different. One thing fans should keep in mind is that the front office isn’t looking to shed salary, but to turn potential free agents and veterans into younger assets.

A report from SB Nation states that the Chicago Cubs are very interested in Tyson Ross and Andrew Cashner to improve a starting rotation that lacks depth. The team is primarily targeting Ross, but could use Cashner as a fall-back option if something doesn’t work out. In order to get those players, the Cubs could be willing to give up Javier Baez, but ultimately would prefer to deal Starlin Castro before the MLB trade deadline hits. The Cubs have also been linked to outfielder Justin Upton.

The New York Yankees are also in on the discussions about Craig Kimbrel, though might not give up the assets that the Padres would ultimately want. A bidding war with the Houston Astros could certainly get Brian Cashman to increase the haul though. Amid all these teams showing defined interests, the Baltimore Orioles are also popping up in fresh San Diego Padres trade rumors. The Orioles want Upton very badly, but again, a bidding war might be about to take place.

As the sun starts to rise in California, the desperation of other teams to add key pieces will likely play to the advantage of Padres general manager A. J. Preller. He has a lot of pressure to bring back tangible assets after dealing so many away during the MLB offseason. Preller has the opportunity to completely re-stock the Minor League system, and fans aren’t going to accept the team standing still at this point. Fans should expect the dominoes to fall rather quickly, even if none of the current Padres trade rumors indicate an imminent deal. By the end of lunchtime on Friday, the roster is going to look a lot different in San Diego.
