Coke Infographic Outlines The Dangers Of Drinking Soda

A Coke infographic, which was published by The Renegade Pharmacist, outlines several dangers associated with drinking soda. Although it is unclear whether the data is valid, the infographic is gaining a lot of attention.

The self-described “ex-community pharmacist turned ‘renegade'” specifically outlines what happens to our bodies within one hour of ingesting a can of sugary soda.

As stated on the Coke infographic, one can of soda contains up to 10 teaspoons of sugar — which exceeds the recommended daily intake.

According to The Renegade Pharmacist, the excess sugar causes blood sugar levels to spike within 20 minutes. As a result, soda drinkers will experience an “insulin burst,” prompting the liver to produce fat.

Within 40 minutes of consuming a can of soda “caffeine absorption is complete.” As a result, the drinker will experience increased blood pressure, dilated pupils, and a burst of energy.

According to The Renegade Pharmacist, caffeine also causes the liver to produce more sugar — which is then released into the bloodstream.

The Coke infographic suggests sugary soda increases dopamine production within 45 minutes. As a result, the drink essentially fuels “the pleasure centers of your brain.” The Renegade Pharmacist suggests “this is physically the same way heroin works.”

According to the infographic, sugary sodas also deplete the body of essential nutrients, as they are bound by the phosphoric acid and eliminated during urination.

Although many health professionals will agree Coke, and other sugary sodas, are unhealthy — it is unclear whether diet soda is a healthy alternative.

A similar infographic, published by Mercola, suggests Diet Coke is as dangerous as the original.

According to the Diet Coke infographic, the calorie-free soda contains methanol, which destroys neurons; aspartic acid, which breaks down into “a deadly toxin;” and phenylalanine, which may cause mental health issues.

Although the information contained in the Coke infographics is disturbing, it is difficult to separate the fact from fiction. Despite the ominous assertions, many health officials agree moderation is the key when consuming any unhealthy product.

It is important to note the The Renegade Pharmacist’s Coke infographic does not contain links to any data or studies, with the exception of the number of servings of Coca Cola “sold each day worldwide.”
