‘Avengers’ Star Chris Hemsworth Talks Stealing Scenes In ‘Vacation’ And Slimming Down

Thor star Chris Hemsworth has been branching out with a number of different roles lately, including one in the upcoming film Vacation. Hemsworth plays a weather forecaster in the movie, who is married to Audrey Griswold (Leslie Mann). Along with showing off his body in the new movie, Hemsworth recently sat down with E! Online and talked about a particular scene involving underwear and fake appendages.

The scene in question had Hemsworth down to just his underwear, sporting a large fake penis. “It was embarrassing,” he stated. “It was hilarious and probably more for other people than me … I was intimidated by that set and scene.”

Directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein added that it was an awkward process picking out which fake penis they wanted Hemsworth to wear. “We went to a room with him and he modeled a couple of options for us,” Goldstein explained. “It was the weirdest couple of hours,” Daley added.

At the same time, Ed Helms, who plays Russell Griswold in the film, stated that he wasn’t shocked by Hemsworth’s prosthetic. “I knew exactly how big it would be because it was molded off of me,” Helms joked. “That’s how we do it, [but] I had no idea his abs would be that amazing. I actually washed my clothes on his abs.”

Meanwhile, in addition to his role in Vacation, Chris Hemsworth is also preparing for Ron Howard’s upcoming film, In the Heart of the Sea. Hemsworth is set to play the first mate, Owen Chase, in the adaptation of the Moby Dick story.

In order to prepare himself for the role, which features the crew of the ship fighting off starvation, Hemsworth had to cut down his diet to 500 calories a day. “We have to shoot the really skinny stuff where we drop down to 5, 6, 700 calories a day, [for] a good three or four weeks and it’s going to be pretty uncomfortable, but we’ll be together in our misery,” he told Entertainment Tonight.

While Howard made sure that the actors were careful with their diet, Hemsworth added that food was all he could think about. “I spend more time thinking about food than anything else at the moment.” he stated. What foods was Hemsworth craving during his diet?

“All the bad stuff — pizza, hamburgers, ice cream, anything that is not on the menu — is something you have an obsession with!”
