‘The Walking Dead’ Spoilers About Two New Characters: Bad News For Carl Grimes?

The Walking Dead TV series is going to introduce a few new key comic book characters during Season 6, and the presence of one them could mean that Carl is about to suffer a pretty horrific loss. Spoilers concerning The Walking Dead comic books and TV series are ahead, so read on at your risk.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Nurse Jackie actress Merritt Wever is joining The Walking Dead cast as Dr. Denise Cloyd. Denise’s medical expertise will come in handy in Alexandria now that Rick Grimes has killed the community’s other doctor, Pete Anderson, and she probably won’t get much time off with the Wolves and a zombie herd coming to town. In the comic books, Denise is the love interest of another new Season 6 character named Heath. As the Inquisitr previously reported, the TV version of Heath is being played by Corey Hawkins, the actor who plays Dr. Dre in the Straight Outta Compton movie.

As the Huffington Post points out, Rick Grimes owes Denise Cloyd a huge debt in the comic books. His son, Carl Grimes, accidentally gets shot in the head by an Alexandrian who is shooting haphazardly at a huge herd of zombies that have invaded the community. Denise uses her medical expertise to save Carl’s life, but the poor kid ends up losing his eye. Merritt Wever’s addition to The Walking Dead cast could mean that Chandler Riggs will have to spend a lot more time in the makeup chair during filming.

However, it’s possible that someone else will end up losing an eye during Season 6 of The Walking Dead. The Spoiling Dead Fans recently reported that Josh McDermitt, the actor who plays Eugene Porter, was spotted trying to cover his face with a towel after filming scenes for the show. Perhaps he didn’t want the walker stalkers around the set to see that his eye was covered with gory makeup. Losing an eye would initially be traumatic for Eugene, but he’d transform into a real lady killer by pairing an eye patch with his mullet.

Merritt Wever isn’t the only fresh recognizable face that fans will see during Season 6 of The Walking Dead. Can’t Hardly Wait actor Ethan Embry has joined the cast as another Alexandrian, and showrunner Scott Gimple says that his character is based on a few different people from The Walking Dead comic books.

“Ethan plays a combo of a few characters that we actually haven’t hit yet or weren’t able to hit in other characters. He is an Alexandrian, and has been there the whole time, just quite busy.”

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Ethan’s character may take over the story of comic book Nicholas after TV Nicholas gets killed off. In the Season 6 trailer for The Walking Dead, Ethan Embry’s character tries to turn his fellow Alexandrians against Rick Grimes. Nicholas does something similar in the comic books.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 11. Do you think Denise Cloyd will patch Carl Grimes up after he loses an eye, or will the boy get to keep both peepers because of the extra makeup time an eye loss would cost?
