Planned Parenthood Video Outrage: #WomenBetrayed Protests Crop Up In 65 U.S. Cities

Planned Parenthood, in recent weeks, had videos leaked from an investigative group Center for Medical Progress. The video detailed what appears to be Planned Parenthood's desire to sell body parts from aborted babies. Planned Parenthood has come out against these accusations, and some allege that one of the videos was heavily doctored. The Center for Medical Progress has released three videos thus far, but a potential 4th video of what looks like Planned Parenthood scheme to profit from baby parts that are leftover from human abortions, according to the Texas Tribune.

Breitbart News reports that a response to the leaked Planned Parenthood videos has exploded onto several American cities Tuesday. The hashtag that hit social media Tuesday was called Women Betrayed, and the protests showed up in 65 U.S. cities before the day was over. They were launched by pro-life groups Students for Life of America and Pro-Life Future. The participants of Women Betrayed are calling for Planned Parenthood to be "investigated, prosecuted, and defunded" by their state and federal lawmakers.

As Planned Parenthood interview videos are released and discontent has grown, many federal lawmakers have heard the Women Betrayed protesters loud and clear. Three Tea Party 2016 presidential hopefuls, some of whom have introduced legislation to this effect like Senator/Dr. Rand Paul, attended the Women Betrayed protests Tuesday. SFLA president Kristan Hawkins had brought their attendance to attention in a statement.

"Women across the nation rose up today to say that they deserve better than Planned Parenthood and abortion. In Washington, D.C. alone, over 500 people – including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), and Dr. Ben Carson – showed up in the blazing heat at the #Women Betrayed rally to demand Planned Parenthood be defunded immediately and investigated for possible criminal actions."

"Planned Parenthood is not making women's health care their top priority but rather focusing on profits through abortion and body part sales. Planned Parenthood has made this clear through the recently released videos, lack of adoption referrals (one referral for every 149 abortions) and the fact that 94% of their business is abortions," the statement said. "In other words, only 6% of Planned Parenthood's focus is dedicated to true women's healthcare… We believe that not one more penny of our taxpayer dollars should go to such an immoral and unethical business that betrays women."

Politico reports that a new bill to defund Planned Parenthood has cropped in the U.S. Senate Wednesday. The report indicates that the bill would take the $540 million in Planned Parenthood funding, and shift it to other women's health programs. The Inquisitr reported that Planned Parenthood president Cecil Richards distanced herself from the doctors in the videos, and has apologized for the "callous tone" taken by them.
