World’s Largest McDonald’s Part of London Olympics

The World’s largest McDonald’s is usually near the Will Rogers Turnpike in Vinita, Oklahoma, but for a short period while the Olympics are going on, that’s all going to change. (Or in Orlando, or Russia or China, depending on who you ask.)

Yes, America will briefly be losing the World’s largest McDonald’s title to our still slightly resentful older cousins across the pond, where the new McDonald’s grand poobah is being built. Seating nearly 15,000 people at a time, the World’s largest McDonald’s at the Summer Olympics will be open for six weeks.

During that time, the chain expects to serve 50,000 Big Macs and 180,000 orders of their signature french fries to hungry games-goers. According to Brit tabloid the Daily Mail, competition to sling hash browns an McMuffins at the World’s largest McDonald’s was pretty intense.

Only 2,000 of the 12,000 hopefuls made the cut to work at the pop-up McDonald’s during its weeks of operation in London, and those who passed muster are said to have gone through “X-Factor style auditions” in order to win a temporary, minimum wage position asking cranky tourists if they want fries with that.

The Mail also quotes 2008 Olympic standout Usain Bolt as crediting McDonald’s ubiquitous chicken nuggets as responsible for at least part of his stamina, with the Olympian explaining:

“I woke around 11am and decided to watch some TV and had some nuggets… Then I slept for a couple of hours more. Then I got some more nuggets and came to the track.”

Nuggets, sleep, nuggets- that totally sounds like a fitness program anyone can do. The World’s largest McDonald’s will be open between the end of June and beginning of September.
