Kanye West Throws Temper Tantrum At Pan Am Games

Kanye West didn’t get booed off stage at the Pan American Games Sunday evening, but he certainly left an impression — Gossip Cop has the news.

“West is seen performing the 2007 hit song [‘Good Life’] at the Rogers Centre in the final minutes of his set, but unfortunately no one in the audience could hear him. West, who looked pretty annoyed with the situation, suddenly tossed his mic in the air and walked off stage.”

Gossip Cop goes on to note that shortly after, officials tweeted that there was a technical error with the microphone that caused the issue, and that it didn’t affect the sound for viewers watching at home. Even though West ended on an abrupt note, his show received generally good reviews. The Toronto Star loved Kanye’s performance.

“The lights were on, the video screens were off, and West slayed them with just his physical performance — overtly dramatic, exaggerated gestures that saw him lie on his back, wave his arms wildly and watch the crowd of 30,000 melt in his hands like putty as they sang along to his hits ‘Power,’ ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing’ and ‘Touch The Sky.’ “

The Guardian gave Kanye’s performance four stars.

“When West appeared, a small contingent booed and left, but most remained, whether excited or simply curious. And when he asked for the stadium’s lights to be turned up during his second number, Power, it felt like the bleary aftermath of a championship sporting match.”

The Guardian goes on to note that Mr. West performed “Gold Digger” (with the ‘N’ word), “Touch the Sky,” and “All of the Lights.” It sounds like the show would have been a complete triumph had Kanye not become so angry.

Meanwhile, Kanye West debuted a video on Friday night for his very troubled album, SWISH, which hasn’t even been released yet. Kanye West released “Only One” on January 1, 2015, and only climbed high enough on Billboard’s Hot 100 to reach No. 35. For other artists, that number wouldn’t be so bad. For Kanye, who is used to having new singles chart in the top five, it was a musical disappointment. Luckily, his next single, “All Day,” did slightly better and climbed to No. 15 on the Hot 100.

Poor sales aside, Kanye West remains one of the most iconic performers in the world. Everything West does, good or bad, makes front-page news. Let’s hope that Kanye West’s album, SWISH, becomes a hit when it is finally released.
