Taylor Swift Has Houston Tour Date Shaken Off

It’s nothing for Taylor Swift to shake off controversy, criticism, and even competition. But since the Houston Astros are making an all-out run towards playoff glory, Taylor Swift found herself shaken off, courtesy of the Houston execs of Minute Maid Park. Her 1989 Tour, expected to rake in historic revenues and touch millions of lives, was scheduled to run into Houston’s ballpark in October. However, that date has been changed due to the hometown baseball team’s sudden rise to stardom.

Houston, sitting only 1 game out of first place and beginning to stockpile talent from other organizations, decided that they wanted to concentrate on their playoff run. Taylor Swift probably won’t mind, since they scheduled her new date 34 days sooner. Instead of October 13, fans who purchased tickets to her concert will see her at Minute Maid Park September 9th. If ticket buyers can’t make the new concert date, Ticketmaster has announced they’ll offer a full refund; otherwise, the previous tickets will work on the new date.

The October tour date could’ve affected Houston Astros’ ability to secure playoff tickets should they gain home-field advantage. The Astros actually announced in December that her concert date was subject to change should Houston compete and secure postseason play. Social media lit the perennially “basement dwelling” baseball club up on the Internet’s largest stage – social media – with snarky commentary back in December, but has probably relaxed knowing the Astros are contending, and Taylor Swift will get to Minute Maid Park eventually.

Houston, who hasn’t been involved with playoff madness since their 2005 World Series loss to the Chicago White Sox (while still in the National League), has been aggressively shopping around for talent, adding highly coveted pitcher Scott Kazmir just last week. Taylor Swift was 16-years-old when Houston was last in the playoff picture, having been a performer for one year. The Pennsylvania born musical genius released her first album in 2006, the first year the Astros began their downward spiral.

There will be no unexpected seat changes for Taylor Swift’s venue, although Ticketmaster will have announcements if changes are made. So far, social media has been silent regarding the concert date change, although Houston had better win it all – a small price for inconveniencing one of the world’s greatest female artists today. Let’s just hope no “Bad Blood” is created between Swift and the Houston hopefuls because of this announcement.
