Bobby Brown A Dad Like Any Other, Now [OPINION]

Death is a significant, if terrible, equalizer, and no one can avoid having to deal with it. Bobby Brown, the singer who rose to fame as part of the boy band New Edition and later in his solo career in the ’80s and ’90s, is dealing with the loss of his daughter with the late Whitney Houston. With the death of Bobbi Kristina Brown at 22, Bobby Brown has become a dad like everyone else, regardless of his celebrity status.

Although he welcomed daughter Bodhi Jameson Rein with wife Alicia Etheridge July 9, Bobby Brown was no doubt weighed down with thoughts of his oldest daughter, who had been in hospice care since June 24.

Certainly, no parent should outlive their child, and Bobby Brown is in the unique position of having just welcomed a newborn daughter while having to bury his oldest. The grief that he is dealing with is incalculable, and he is in the process of contacting family to inform them of his daughter’s passing, which is no doubt a welcome distraction. He is, apparently, drawing some comfort from the notion that his daughter is now reunited with Whitney Houston.

Bobby Brown and Bobbi Kristina’s aunt, Pat Houston, had been appointed co-guardians of Bobbi Kristina and ultimately made the decision to take the 22-year-old off the medications that were keeping her alive when the doctor told the Brown and Houston families that there was nothing more that could be done for her. Bobbi Kristina died July 26.

Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston were married for 15 years, a relationship which Houston described as drug and alcohol fuelled. Their union ended in divorce in 2007, when Bobbi Kristina was just 14. Now, though, Bobby Brown only has memories of his little girl and what was.

Others in the celebrity world are mourning the Bobbi Kristina’s passing as well.

Oprah Winfrey acknowledged the pain that the Brown and Houston families had been going through and said that Bobbi Kristina was now finally at peace.

Hopefully, Bobby Brown can overcome what is likely the most significant pain he has ever gone through and embrace the new love he has found with his new addition. Bobby Brown can also, as daughter Bobbi Kristina has unfortunately done, found the true peace that has seemed to be elusive for him for years. Funeral arrangements have yet to be finalized for 22-year-old Bobbi Kristina, but it seems for now, Bobby Brown and his late ex-wife’s family are working together to find the common ground that they were missing before.
