Amazon Will be Opening Up A Drive-Through Grocery Store

Amazon, the largest online retailer in the world, has plans to open a grocery store in Silicon Valley. Amazon’s drive-through grocery store will allow consumers to collect items that they have ordered online. According to Telegraph, customers will pick the items up at a designated point, and they will know what time to pick their items up at because the time will have already been arranged.

The company already has a service called Amazon Fresh, which is a grocery delivery service, and they have another service called Amazon Locker, which allows customers to go and get their orders from a secure location.

Another service Amazon is planning possibly launching is “Prime Air,” which will involve the use of a drone to deliver purchases to Amazon customers in 30 minutes, or in even less time than that. Amazon has Prime Air development centers in the United States, United Kingdom, and Israel. Amazon is also carrying out testing in a number international locations.

According to KTVU, the Amazon grocery store will be located in Sunnyvale, and the warehouse is going to be equipped with a pickup area that features eight car stalls. The project has already been approved. Amazon didn’t submit plans for the project, but a real estate developer did, and the size of the building they have in mind is 11,600-square-feet.

Amazon wants to make it easy for people to come and go, and that is why they are having the project done in a way that will allow people who are walking or biking to pick up their items.

Amazon hasn’t officially announced that they are behind the project, but the Silicon Valley Business Journal reported that Amazon might very well be the tenant. One person said that they wouldn’t be surprised if it was Amazon that was behind the project. They said that this is the kind of innovation that Amazon is known for.

The planning documents do not have Amazon listed on them, and officials in the city have not confirmed that it is Amazon behind the project, but that’s because officials are not able to confirm who the company is. As of now, there is no official word on when the project will be completed, but it will now go through an appeals period, which is 15 days. When the grocery drive-through store is completed, it will share the land with a hardware store.

Last week Amazon made headlines when they became the most valuable retail establishment. Amazon ended up becoming worth more than retail giant Walmart. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Amazon’s valuation shot right up to more than $240 billion, which meant that Amazon’s value was $20 billion more than Walmart.
