Ex-BioShock Devs Form New Indie Studio

Three developers who worked on 2k Games’ acclaimed BioShock franchise have broken off from the company to form their own indie development studio, which they’re calling ‘The Fullbright Company.’

Steve Gaynor, Johnnemann Nordhagen and Karla Zimonja previously worked on BioShock 2, including the ‘Minerva’s Den‘ DLC, and also contributed to the development of Irrational Games’ upcoming BioShock Infinite, and XCOM from 2K Marin.

The three developers decided to start a development studio of their own because, as they put in a blog post on the developer’s new website, “we missed working on a small team, on a small project, focused on telling a personal story in a player-driven way.”

The Fullbright Company isn’t willing to go into specifics on what its first game will be, but the developer did outline what the team is shooting for with the game’s overall experience.

“A memorable experience that you’ll be drawn into, and keep thinking about after the game’s turned off, and want to come back to again someday,” the description reads.

“An experience that gets away from the constraints of ossified game genres, while relying on what we’re good at as a team: creating immersive places to inhabit, and a deep, personal story to explore at your own pace. A nonviolent game in an unfantastical locale; an experience that not many games provide, built out of techniques that only video games can employ.”
