Xbox One Gamescom Briefing, ‘Halo 5’ ESL Tournament To Be Livestreamed

The anticipation for Microsoft’s Gamecom media briefing is building this year based on the fact that it will include Xbox One games not shown at E3. Details on when and where the Xbox Gamescom 2015 Briefing will be livestreamed were released Thursday along with other plans for the console during Europe’s largest annual gaming convention.

The Xbox Gamescom 2015 Briefing will take place on Tuesday, August 4 at 4 p.m. CEST. That’s 10 a.m. EDT / 7 a.m. PDT in North America. The event will be livestreamed and can be watched on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles, as well as through the web and mobile versions of Xbox.com.

The team that brought the Xbox Daily: LIVE @ E3 livestreams will return for Gamescom. The 60 minute live shows will broadcast from the show floor on August 5 and 6 at 12 p.m. EDT and feature Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb,” Graeme “AceyBongos” Boys, Jula Hardy, and various developers and industry personalities as guests. It can be watched through the same channels mentioned with the briefing above.

Gamescom will also be the first chance to see Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer in a competitive environment. The ESL is hosting a Gamescom Invitational featuring the competitive Arena multiplayer mode and four top eSports teams – Epsilon Esports (EU), Supremacy (EU), CAZ.Esports (EU), and OpTic Gaming (NA).

The Halo 5: Guardians gamescom Invitational by ESL will take place on Friday, August 7 starting at 9 a.m. EDT and can be viewed live on Twitch.tv/Halo and the Halo Channel.

Meanwhile, those lucky enough to attend Gamescom 2015 will have a shot at attending the Xbox FanFest Showcase on Tuesday, August 4 plus additional events on Wednesday, August 5. Only 500 tickets are being given away, and fans can line up for one at the Gloria Theater in Cologne, Germany, beginning at 2:00 p.m CEST. Those over the age of 18 will get to partake in the following:

  • Xbox FanFest Showcase on Tuesday night
  • A secret Wednesday day-time activity.
  • VIP Access to the very first Xbox Party on the Rhein on Wednesday, August 5. Take an evening cruise while enjoying an epic Xbox event, just for our fans.
  • Exclusive fan swag and Xbox-branded backpacks.
  • Meet and greet some of the industry’s top developers, leaders and influencers.

As I covered for Inqusitr yesterday, this year’s Gamescom is critical for the Xbox One. The PlayStation 4 holds a commanding 70 to 90 percent market share for current generation consoles in continental Europe. Xbox will be showcasing Quantum Break, Scalebound, and Crackdown during the event in addition to Halo 5 and other titles.

This year’s Gamescom might be the best shot the Xbox One has at capturing back some of the European market share. Not only is Microsoft touting the best line-up in the console’s history, Sony will have a diminished presence at the show with no plans for a press conference, and a fall line-up that is light on first-party exclusives and heavy on third-party timed DLC exclusives.
