Charlie Hunnam Looks Dashing In His New ‘King Arthur’ Avatar

Charlie Hunnam‘s new look in Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur has been officially revealed by Entertainment Weekly, and the English actor looks as resplendent and dashing as ever.

Hunnam is featured on the cover of the magazine’s new issue, for which Entertainment Weekly visited the location of King Arthur back in June. In the film, the Sons of Anarchy star plays an edgier hero, unlike the medieval superman we have become familiar with over the years. His gritty background of growing up in fifth century London amidst prostitutes makes him a street-hood. According to Comic Book, Hunnam said the protagonist was well within Ritchie’s favorite gambit of characters.

“He’s a little bit rough around the edges, but he’s basically a survivor. He’s a hustler. He’s a street kid. There’s definitely a harder edge to him than people would imagine. It’s sort of classic Guy Ritchie stuff.”

And we hope it is. However, where King Arthur is different from Ritchie’s other films is in its treatment of the fantasy element. Instead of producing a stripped-down reboot, the Charlie Hunnam star vehicle will be a full-blown epic fantasy drama, full of gigantic snakes, colossal elephants, and a monstrous Viking-like creature known as The Nemesis.

Ritchie is known for giving his own stylized interpretations to heroes of yore, most notably for his swashbuckling, street-smart reworking of Arthur Conan Doyle’s 19th century English sleuth Sherlock Holmes. In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, Guy Ritchie was forthcoming in his denunciation of nice characters.

“I think where the pitfall has often been is trying to make King Arthur bland and nice, and nice and bland. The two qualities make rather compatible bed companions. Unfortunately, they’re not interesting to watch. Luke Skywalker was always the most uninteresting character in Star Wars because he’s the good guy. Good guys are boring.”

And here’s some more good news for Charlie Hunnam’s fans. King Arthur hopes to be the first of an ambitious six-film franchise, which aims at a complete retelling of the Arthurian legend. Imagine Charlie Hunnam being a regular fixture as King Arthur for several years to come!

While the first installment is not slated for a release until next summer, the official release of Charlie Hunnam’s new look gives his fans another reason to go cuckoo over the British actor’s dapper looks.

We can’t wait to see Charlie Hunnam in his new avatar. Finally, Charlie has gotten off his Harley Davidson and stepped into royalty!
