‘Sharknado’ 3 Syllables Become Ian Ziering’s Daughter’s New Word, But Will She Say April Lives Or Dies?

Penna Mae is only two years old, but Ian Ziering’s daughter already knows how to say “Sharknado.” Surrounded by the “storm of Sharknado fandom,” the toddler’s first three-syllable word was the name of the massive hit that stars her dad, Ian. Ziering told People that Penna Mae’s vocabulary so far has been limited to one and two syllable words, so Sharknado is a huge addition for her.

“She doesn’t even know what the movie is, but Sharknado is the first three-syllable word she’s ever said.”

Adding a three-syllable word this week is perfect timing as the third installment of the show, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, premiered today on Syfy.

Though Penna Mae hasn’t seen Sharknado, she’s so caught up in it that she loves not only saying the word; she likes to sing it too, says proud father Ziering. His older daughter, 4-year-old Mia Loren, has also shown interest in Sharknado. Two years ago, she saw a clip of her father in the show, and Ian says “she was mesmerized.” When the clip turned to a scene of Ziering “chain-sawing [his] way out from the belly of the shark,” the little Sharknado fan didn’t turn away, and just told Ian she was “glad” he was okay.

When Ziering first agreed to do the show, he was more interested in the health insurance than anything else. The Sharknado script didn’t impress him, but the dollars that would keep him in the right income bracket for topnotch health insurance did. So Ziering accepted the part for the sake of his daughters, and now his daughters might be his biggest fans!

Since then, both the girls have had a chance to see some of the “lunacy” that goes along with the Sharknado cult following. Ziering told People about taking Penna Mae to Comic-Con, for instance.

“Everyone was dressed as sharks or had some type of Sharknado paraphernalia on them. She had her flag, and she had her Wonder Woman shirt on. She kind of gets it. She kind of does.”

It’s a good thing that Ziering’s daughters are fans in the making for his mega franchise show. There’s already a fourth installment on the way. With the cliffhanger ending of Sharknado 3 leaving it up to the viewers to decide if April (Tara Reid) lives or dies, fans know they can count on Sharknado 4 showing up next summer.

The question is, will Penna Mae learn to say “April lives,” or “April Dies?”
