‘Empire’ Season 2 Trailer Drops: New Music, New Money, New Power, New Empire [Video]

Looks like Empire’s second season is getting underway. Season 2 has a new slogan, and that’s “New Music, New Money, New Power, New Empire.”

The words flash on the screen as new scenes are shown from the upcoming season of Empire. From the looks of it, it seems like the brothers Lyon are at it again making new music, but this time it looks like they’re embarking on a tour. We also get a glimpse of Hakeem in the studio too.

For the New Money portion, Cookie looks fierce in new digs, while Jamal looks concerned.

The New Power clip is very telling as we see Cookie walking in with son Andre, who might be making a comeback after he had an emotional breakdown. At the end of the season, he learned some jarring news about his wife (spoiler alert for those that didn’t watch the season finale: she’s pregnant). We also see that Hakeem and Boo Boo Kitty (aka Lucious’ ex Anika) are still involved in something.

And what about “New Empire”? Well, we knew that Jamal Lyon is set to take over the family business, but this is our first glimpse of Lucious in prison. His visitor is none other than ex Cookie Lyon, and from the looks of it, she doesn’t look too happy to be there.

We don’t know much about Season 2, but we do know it’s going to be a star studded event. As far as guest stars go so far Alicia Keys, Marisa Tomei, Lenny Kravitz, and Chris Rock are all signed up for Season 2.

As for what we can expect, co-creator Danny Strong said, “A think we talk about in the writers’ room all the time is Game of Thrones, so telling this modern day hip=hop soap opera but trying to frame it in an epic, mythological kingdom framework is the most exciting part of the show..The continuation of those battles is what I personally dig the most.”

He continued, saying that they have to keep the dramatic show “humble.” “We’re just going to continue the story, because if we tried to make it bigger and better, we’d make it worse and lamer… We’re cognizant of things fans responded to, but this isn’t ‘choose your own adventure. It’s not like we ignore the response to the show, but we don’t use that to guide us.”

The eighteen-episode order stars airing on September 23.
