Frank Lampard Promises Fans He Will Return To Chelsea

Frank Lampard hasn’t actually played a game for New York City FC, but the English soccer legend has already promised Chelsea fans that he will one day return to his former club.

The 37-year-old midfielder made this declaration during a question and answer session with Chelsea fans that was held in New York City.

Lampard was bombarded with questions during the session, which he conducted alongside former Chelsea players Mario Melchiot and Bobby Tambling. But what will have left Chelsea fans most interested is Lampard’s declaration that he will one day return to Stamford Bridge.

According to the Daily Mail, the huge contingent of Chelsea fans that gathered to meet Frank Lampard began to chant, “We want our Frankie back,” towards the legendary midfielder, which then prompted Lampard to insist, “I’ll be back.”

Lampard made this declaration after he recalled playing against Chelsea while he was in the colors of Manchester City. Speaking about the occasion, Lampard explained, “When I moved on from Chelsea I was really pleased with the reception I got from the fans everywhere, but particularly at Man City when I scored [against Chelsea].”

Lampard continued, “It was not an easy decision [to leave] and I’m so delighted that I can look back at it now and think that it’s not affected my feelings towards you [the fans] and yours towards mine. Not every team in England and in the Premier League would have fans who act the way you act all the time and I think that needs to be spoken about a lot more.”

Lampard also talked at length about what makes Chelsea fans so unique, and at the same time he even squeezed in a quick insult to his old team, West Ham United.

“From my personal experience, once you’re part of Chelsea it’s with you forever. I think they’re loyal. I remember when I was playing at West Ham and at one stage they were probably booing about 5 players from our own team.

I cant remember many of the players that our fans have stood there and booed. Torres having a difficult time, Shevchenko having a difficult time. Week after week the fans got behind them. There’s a class about the club and I know sometimes people try to give Chelsea fans a bit of a bashing for certain reasons, and I’m always the first one to stand up.”

Frank Lampard is set to make his debut for New York City Football Club in the very near future, where he will soon play alongside Andrea Pirlo and David Villa.
