Fresno Grizzlies Taco Uniforms: Minor League Celebrates Taco Trucks With Complete Uniform Overhaul For A Day

The Fresno Grizzlies will don uniforms that will transform them into Fresno Tacos. The visual transformation will take place for a single day and a single game this summer season.

For four consecutive years, the Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A affiliate of the Huston Astros, have been promoting taco. This Central California region has always claimed that it is the authentic birthplace of the crunchy, savory any-time snack. Last year, over 27,000 tacos were sold by dozens of taco truck vendors who congregated near the city’s ballpark from all around San Joaquin Valley, reported the Washington Post.

Till today, the promotions were strictly kept off-field. However, the traditions are about to be changed at the fifth Taco Truck Throwdown, which happens to be on August 6. In order to promote the snack and the culture, Fresno Grizzlies, the local Minor League Baseball team, has decided to go all out with a complete wardrobe overhaul, reported Sports Logos.

As the Fresno Grizzlies prepare to take on the Albuquerque Isotopes, the otherwise ferocious looking team will be sporting green and orange on the traditional white jerseys. Instead of the word Grizzlies, the team jersey will read “Tacos.” Designed by in-house designers Dorian Castro and Andy Inman, the jerseys will allow the team to promote the game with colorful ensemble and the local culture, said Grizzlies manager of communications Ryan Young,

“This is one of our largest-attended games of the year and this way we can also give attention to the players on the field.”

Taco Sales Have Skyrocketed Since The TTT
Taco Sales Have Skyrocketed Since The TTT

Taco Truck Throwdown (TTT) was created with the primary purpose of offering exposure to the taco truck operators as well as the customers who wouldn’t have otherwise chanced upon such a delicious treat that is sold on far-flung dusty roads, outskirts of towns, industrial areas, etc., reported Yahoo. These Taco trucks have been in existence since migrant workers from Mexico started working in the predominately agricultural region and wanted something cheap but sumptuous to eat on their relatively meager earnings.

With the Fresno Grizzlies donning the Taco uniforms, organizers are strongly hoping to break the sales record set last year. Despite the team wearing their regular uniforms, the taco trucks managed to collectively sell more than 27,000 tacos last year.

Central California has always been one of the country’s top food producers, and its significant Latino population is hugely responsible for a large chunk of the organic produce. While promotional uniforms certainly aren’t a new concept, the Fresno Grizzlies have managed to successfully uphold the local community’s preferences. Now, it’s up to the taco trucks to cash-in on the euphoria.
