Does Kit Harington Being In Belfast Really Mean Jon Snow Is Alive?

There are currently many reports that Jon Snow could really be alive in Game of Thrones, all because Kit Harington has been spotted in Belfast with his man-bun. The problem is that it does not definitively prove that the character is alive and well. There are a number of reasons he could be there.

When characters have died in the past, the first episode or two has included that character. There have been funeral scenes, and last year there was the use of the flashback from Cersei’s point of view. Having Harington in Belfast could just be for a funeral scene. There are also rumors that his parentage storyline will be explained in season six, so a flashback with a cut to a dead Jon Snow is possible.

The Game of Thrones producers are adamant that the character is definitely dead. Kit has even said he is not coming back. Mashable even reminds fans that President Obama was told that the character is definitely gone. So it is no surprise that fans are speculating on why he is in Belfast, and why he is refusing to take photos with fans.

One of the issues is that the scenes around The Wall and north of it are not all filmed in Belfast—or even Northern Ireland at all. Many of them are filmed in Iceland, since the snow and cold temperatures are required. While The Daily Mail reports that Iceland is for the “northern most tip of Westeros,” there have been scenes just north of The Wall that have been shot in the beautiful landscape. The producers have wanted to avoid CGI to give the look of cold weather.

Seeing Kit Harington in Belfast does not mean that the character is definitely alive. There are plenty of reasons for him to be there. The show runners once said that they would never use flashbacks, but used them last season. It is possible that they will be used during season six of Game of Thrones and could even take Jon back to Winterfell, which is filmed in Northern Ireland. Jon may not have died right at the end, and may be clinging onto his life and in and out of consciousness at the start, allowing for the flashbacks.

There are some people who believe he will be brought back to life, which suggests that he is dead right now but would explain why he is back in the current filming location of most of Game of Thrones. While the show runners said that Kit Harington’s character was “deader than dead” at the moment, that did not mean that he would stay dead for too long.
