“My heart aches for my beautiful Dash. Called to doggie heaven much too early. Yesterday was a very sad day,” Ms. Hurley told her 490,000 followers.

Dash was one of the five dogs that make up Ms. Hurley’s canine family and following the announcement that made her bereavement plain, Elizabeth’s Twitter account was clogged with messages from followers passing on their condolences. Understandably, Elizabeth was away from Twitter, as she grieved the loss, but as Elizabeth returned, she was overwhelmed by the sheer number of followers wishing her well.

“Thank you so much for all your lovely messages re Dash,” Hurley tweeted in reply to the messages. “He was an enchanting dog. He’s buried under an oak tree.”

Elizabeth is well known for being an animal lover by her fans and Elizabeth has commented in interviews that she regularly lets her dogs sleep in bed with her at her Gloucestershire home.

“The first thing I do when I wake up is kiss my dogs. All of whom sleep on top of me,” Ms. Hurley said.

Elizabeth spoke of Dash previously when it was asked how the actress stays in shape. Ms. Hurley referred to her pets and the active lifestyle Elizabeth maintains to keep up with her canine companions.

“Living in the country means I try to walk or run with the dogs every day. I have three Labradors and a Spaniel, all of whom are a lot fitter than me.”

Ms. Hurley returned to work on Friday, following the loss of Dash, resuming her role as Queen Helena on The Royals. The synopsis provided by E! suggests that Hurley’s character is head of a decadent royal family often found embattled in controversy.

“A drama about a fictional British Royal family set in modern day London, who inhabit a world of opulence and regal tradition that caters to any and every desire, but one that also comes with a price tag of duty, destiny and intense public scrutiny.”

As Ms. Hurley returned to work, Elizabeth teased her Twitter followers about the scene which she had just finished filming.

“An violently aggressive, humdinger of a scene yesterday with @JakeMaskall #TheRoyals”

The Royals season premiere has no confirmed date yet, but will air in 2016 on E!
