‘Billboard’ Hot 100: Good News For Omi And The Weeknd

Omi’s summer hit “Cheerleader” once again tops Billboard‘s Hot 100. Billboard broke the news yesterday.

“OMI’s ‘Cheerleader’ leads the Billboard Hot 100 for a second week. The reggae/pop song fends off The Weeknd’s ‘Can’t Feel My Face,’ which pushes to No. 2. Hot 100 Music Festival headliner The Weeknd additionally reaches the top 10 with his other current single, ‘The Hills.'”

Billboard goes on to note that “Cheerleader” has a fairly equal split in chart points from streaming, sales, and airplay. Omi spends a third week at No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart, even though “Cheerleader” declines by 38 percent in sales. On Streaming Songs, “Cheerleader” holds at No. 3 with 13.7 million U.S. streams. Omi’s hit is also the fifth most played song on radio.

Omi recently talked to Billboard about his recent success.

“It’s every artist’s dream. It all seems surreal. Not everyone gets to live their dream. My dream wasn’t to become famous, but to be appreciated, inspiring and to do what I love, and that is my music.”

Omi recently talked to Fuse about his recent approach to recording music.

“When I started going to the studio, I realized that there was another aspect of music that I needed to grasp before I could pursue this as a career, and that’s where the whole singing comes in. I started experimenting, I started having a feel of my voice and knowing my range.”

Omi better enjoy his time at No. 1 because The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face,” at No. 2, is catching up really fast. The Sun Times Network quotes Ed Sheeran revealing that The Weeknd will be collaborating with Kanye West.

“In my head I’m like, ‘The Weeknd doesn’t want to write a song! The Weeknd doesn’t want to work with anyone.’ He’s got one feature on his album, which is Kanye West. He doesn’t want to do that.”

Besides songs from Omi and The Weeknd, other songs in the top ten include Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” (No. 3), Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” (No. 4), Silento’s “Watch Me” (No. 5), Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen” (No. 6), Walk The Moon’s “Shut Up And Dance” (No. 7), Rachel Platten’s “Love Song” (No. 8), Major Lazer’s “Lean On” (No. 9) and The Weeknd’s “The Hills” (No. 10).

The Weeknd’s second hit in the top ten, “The Hills,” continues to gain sales and airplay at a fast rate. Within the next couple of weeks, The Weeknd could have two hits in the top five. Who do you think will be at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 next week — will Omi rule again or will The Weeknd take over?
