Rosie Perez On ‘The View’ Exit: ‘Be Happy’

It sounds like Rosie Perez isn’t broken up about her departure from The View. Perez caught up with E! at the premiere of the boxing movie Southpaw starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams. While on the red carpet, Rosie sounded off on her View exit, and you might be surprised by her response.

Of her exiting The View, Perez said, “Be happy for me. I feel like I made the right decision to move on and I’m going to miss the girls, and I’m going to miss the audience, but it’s going to be OK.”

After it was announced that Rosie was leaving The View after one season, the executive producer, Bill Wolff, said of Perez’s departure, “Our friend Rosie Perez has decided to leave the show at the conclusion of this season to pursue full time her love for acting.”

He continued, “Stepping into the role of talk show host at the same time she has been starring on Broadway has been incredibly impressive. And beyond being an enormously talented performer, Rosie is a dedicated advocate who has brought passion and insight to the panel every day.”

While Perez was a co-panelist she was also starring in Larry David’s Fish in the Dark on Broadway. Perez seemed to be in good spirits when E! caught up with her. She even joked that both gigs were hard to take on. “They both have their issues, but I’m not complaining. I’m truly not complaining.”

She told the outlet that she did learn a lot from her short time on The View. “I was really surprised how much it had taught me. It taught me a lot about being a host, a very different medium from being an actor. It also taught me a lot about my character, how much I could endure and how I had to get over my shyness.”

Although Perez is exiting the show in August, when the news was announced that she wasn’t returning for another season, Perez addressed the audience the next day during its July 8th show. “I’ve decided that it’s time to move on and I will say that today is very bittersweet for me.” As Perez’s her eyes filled up with tears, her co-panelists Whoopi Goldberg and Nicolle Wallace grew emotional. “I am excited for what is to come but I am so sad to leave The View, the staff, the producers, ABC and especially these two ladies.”

As the Inquisitr reported Perez isn’t the only one to depart from The View. It’s rumored that Nicolle Wallace was fired from the show due to her lack of pop culture knowledge, such as the Kardashians. When this bit of information leaked, Wallace ran off a two minute segment of all the Kardashian facts she knew. Despite that she’ll still be saying goodbye in August. New to the program are Raven-Symone and Michelle Collins who were both hired this year and are staying on for another season.
