Owner Yells At Toddler: Diner Owner Defends Decision To Yell At Screaming Toddler
A diner owner yells at a toddler who had been crying for over an hour, and she is now defending her decision to do so. According to USA Today, Darla Neugebauer, the owner of Marcy’s Diner in Portland, Maine, yelled at a toddler to get her to stop crying. Her tactic worked, but she has been receiving quite a bit of backlash for her actions.
The toddler’s mom took to Facebook to air her complaint — and to slam the woman who yelled at her kid — according to the Inquisitr. Since the story went viral on social media thanks to the post, the diner owner has defended herself, and says that she made a lot of people — including herself — happy by getting the toddler to stop screaming.
“I slammed my hands on the counter and said, ‘This needs to stop.’ She looked at me, and she stopped… Life’s full of choices and you’ve got live with all of them. I chose to yell at a kid. It made her shut up, which made me happy. It made my staff happy, it made the other 75 people dining here happy and they left. They may never come back, and other people may not come in — their loss, really.”
News that the diner owner yelled at a toddler has caused people to debate whether or not this action was appropriate. While the owner doesn’t seem to be the least bit sorry for her actions, people have taken to social media to voice their opinions on this incident, many split on the treatment of the toddler.
According to Fox News, some people feel as though the owner had no right to yell in the toddler’s face, frustrated or not. There may have been other ways to solve this problem, like asking the family to leave because of the disruption the child was causing, for example.
@proudliberalmom @MarcysDiner YELLING at somebody else’s kid is never appropriate. Tell them to leave, call the police. But yelling? No.

While I agree with the intentions from the owner of #MarcysDiner, I don’t support the yelling at kids thing. Focus should be on the parents!

Other people think that the owner had every right to get the child to be quiet after dealing with the crying for such a long period of time.
@MarcysDiner I’m a franchise owner I have no problem in telling parents to control their kids,my other paying customers appreciate it. — Mika Ju On1 (@OnMika) July 21, 2015
@MarcysDiner Please, there’s nothing worse than an unruly kid with an inadequate parent unable to discipline her child. Well done! — Bullion Brothers (@BullionBrothers) July 21, 2015
@MarcysDiner great job. These parents of this undisciplined child run straight to Facebook and cry and tell everyone what happened. Shut up! — Kevin Craig (@kegcraig65) July 20, 2015
The diner owner yells at a toddler debate doesn’t seem to be slowing down, either. Where do you stand on the issue?
