Diner Owner Slammed For Yelling At Screaming 2-Year-Old, Gets Overwhelming Support On Social Media

Diner owner Darla Neugebauer was slammed in media reports for yelling at a screaming 2-year-old having breakfast at her restaurant, while her parents did nothing to calm her. Now, she is getting overwhelming support on social media for her actions.

To say that the diner owner doesn’t have a problem with the way she reacted to the disruptive child would be an understatement. It all happened Saturday morning, in a packed Marcy’s Diner, when the child started yelling “for about 40 minutes,” according to the diner owner.

Neugebauer lost her patience when the 2-year-old girl wouldn’t stop screaming and her parents seemed oblivious to the discomfort their daughter was causing the rest of the paying customers. The diner owner took it upon herself to stop the incident and yelled at the child, who in turn stopped crying.

The mother was appalled and posted a scathing comment on her Facebook page; however, now the diner owner is getting a lot of positive remarks regarding the incident. Even though many saw Neugebauer’s actions as thoughtless, she is not backing down and went as far as saying, “It’s not that I don’t enjoy children, I enjoy good children.”

Despite taking down the original post, Marcy’s diner’s Facebook page is getting much support from the public and the way in which Neugebauer handled the situation. People such as Angus McPherson are not holding back.

“For those of you parents who are complaining about their kiddies being yelled at when they are disrupting a diner/restaurant or wherever in public they are should give your collective heads a shake. The rest of the restaurant’s customers are paying good money to dine/shop in the same area you are subjecting your kids and until you are paying for everybody’s meals show some common courtesy and control your kids, leave them at home or take them outside. If the noisy kid goes into another restaurant, next time the kid will remember being yelled at and STFU. Too bad some parents don’t understand that concept.”

Robyn Howerton agreed with the way the diner owner handled the disruptive 2-year-old.

“Anyone that lets their kid scream for almost an hour while I’m eating out with my well behaved kids, is going to get me coming over and dragging them away for a bit and teaching them HOW TO PARENT! Sheesh. Unless they are paying for my dinner, they need to control their children. Like the rest of us do. Period dot.”

The parents of the unruly child, Tara and John Carson — who were on vacation in Portland, Maine, where the diner is located — told WCSH they had to explain to their child what happened.

“I turned to my daughter and I was like ‘Listen, this is how I’m raising you not to be as an adult. Like, you will never be like this when you get older.’ I felt helpless as a mom that, you know, I couldn’t do anything to help her, because I can’t explain why there’s crazy people in this world that behave like that.”
