Jennifer Lawrence On Playing Mystique Again: ‘There Is Hope’

When it comes to Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique character in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse movie, never say never. Jennifer didn’t deny or confirm whether or not she would reprise the role of her character. For now, her future with the Marvel movies remains unclear.

Lawrence remains uncertain of her future with the X-Men franchise. She says that she hopes to come back in future films, but she remains unsure. According to Lawrence, Marvel Studios is planning to go forward with the franchise and with its current cast. There is one little thing about the character that bothers the actress.

“I love working with Bryan, and I love these movies. It’s just the paint.”

When Jennifer first played the role of Mystique in X-Men: First Class at the age of 20, the “fumes and toxins” didn’t bother her then.

“Now I’m almost 25 and I’m like, ‘I can’t even pronounce this and that’s going in my nose? I’m breathing that?”

When asked if she would reprise the role of Mystique, Lawrence said that she’s not saying goodbye to her character just yet.

“There is hope. I don’t want to be asked. I just wanna finish this movie and then figure out the next one. But I do think about the next chapters of these stories. My hope is we can bring these guys back. And if we didn’t then I would adjust.”

There’s something else that Jennifer had to adjust to. She has to get used to saying goodbye to her beloved Hunger Games character Katniss. Like with her role of Mystique, Jennifer was only 20 when she took on the role. At the San Diego Comic-Con, Jennifer reflected on what it’s like to say goodbye to her character for the last time.

“I don’t feel like it’s happened yet. It’s still such a big part of my life. These movies really did change my life. The people who are in my life… you guys challenged me. I love you. I think that the changes that happened in my life are so permanent that I don’t think I’ll ever really say goodbye to her. She feels like she’s part of me.”

Fans will have to wait to see Lawrence’s role of Mystique for the last time in X-Men: Apocalypse. The movie is set to for release in theaters on May 27, 2016.
