LA Lakers Rumors: Lakers Did Make Trade Bid For Ty Lawson — Who Did They Offer? Who Is On The Block?

The LA Lakers are once again being mentioned in news, where they are the team that didn’t get a player via trade or free agent signing. Troubled star Ty Lawson has been traded from the Denver Nuggets to the Houston Rockets, but it seems the Lakers did put forth an effort to get him. Who did they offer in the trade, and who is still on the trading block as the 2015 NBA free agency goes on?

When all was said and done, the Nuggets traded Ty Lawson to the Rockets for four players and a 2016 first-round pick. It looks as if the Nuggets will also send a 2017 second-round pick to Houston as well, per ESPN.

Lawson is currently in rehab due to getting his second DUI arrest in 2015.

Apparently, the Lakers really did try to make a trade work to acquire Lawson, but the package they put together wasn’t one that beat out that of the Rockets.

While there is no confirmation as to what the offer was from the Lakers, SB Nation assumes it was some combination of Nick Young, Robert Sucre, Tarik Black, Jabari Brown, and Ryan Kelly.

Even though there were early rumblings that the Lakers would be alright trading away Julius Randle and D’Angelo Russell, that stopped being the case. Now, the Lakers were not willing to part with either of those players, and Jordan Clarkson, as well.

Most likely, the Lakers’ reluctance to give up Clarkson in a trade is what ended up ceasing any talk of Lawson going to LA. The higher-ups in Los Angeles would have been happy with Lawson, but he’s quite troubled right now, and a lot of future promise is seen in Clarkson.

It’s interesting to think that the Lakers thought they could land a quality-player such as Ty Lawson in a trade if they truly had decided against trading Nick Young. One wouldn’t think that just Sucre, Kelly, and/or Black would be enough to get Lawson into Los Angeles.

Time is running out on free agency, and the LA Lakers have brought in a few big signings, but they’ve failed in so many more than they’ve succeeded at. It’s time for them to turn to trades, but they aren’t having much luck in that department, either. Missing out on Ty Lawson is big, but now it’s just onto the next one.
