That was also the only year in which Team USA did not even qualify for the semifinals.

Team USA comes into the semifinal off a quarterfinal in which they erased most of the doubts from the inconsistent play they displayed during the group stage, in which they won two games and drew a third to win their group. Behind a hat-trick for Seattle Sounders striker Clint Dempsey, the USA men overwhelmed Cuba, winning 6-0.
Jamaica, on the other hand, struggled to preserve a 1-0 lead, from a ninth-minute goal by Giles Barnes, to squeak past Haiti and earn the right to face Team USA on Wednesday.
The Reggae Boyz will come into the game struggling to match the USA energy, with 17 of the team’s 23-man squad coming into the Gold Cup directly from the Copa America tournament.
But even a fresh Jamaica team would likely have serious trouble overcoming the challenge posed by the overwhelming favorite USA — despite the team’s increasing confidence.
“They’ll be a tough test on Wednesday,” said Jamaica’s Barnes, asked about his team’s prospects against Team USA. “But we’re confident that we’re more than capable of coming away with a result.”
