Jesy Nelson Proposal: Little Mix Singer Gets Engaged On Stage With Help From Ed Sheeran

Jesy Nelson is engaged, and it took a public proposal and some help from superstar Ed Sheeran to make it happen.

The Little Mix singer was at a concert at Manchester Arena when Sheeran called Jesy and her boyfriend Jake Roche on stage. Roche then proceeded to drop to one knee and propose to Nelson before thousands of cheering fans. She said yes.

Afterward a jubilant Roche shared a bit of background with fans, explaining that he and Jesy Nelson met in that very same arena last year.

“A year ago today I met her at Manchester Arena, so it was only right, with a little help from my friend, that this happened,” he wrote on Instagram. “Best day of my life.”

Roche, a member of the band Rixton, also thanked Ed Sheeran for his help in putting the proposal together.

Nelson seemed very thankful as well.

“I cannot believe what has just happened! The most surreal moment of my life and everyone that I love most was there to share it with us!” the 24-year-old wrote. “I feel like the luckiest girl in the world rite now.”

She added, “Literally cannot stop crying! Future Mrs. Roche.”

Jesy Nelson and her band Little Mix have been in the spotlight since forming through X Factor UK. They have a number of hit songs, and some attention thanks to member Perrie Edwards, whose relationship with former One Direction singer Zayn Malik helped lead to his exit from the boy band.

The group has opened up about the pressure they feel to look a certain way, but said they aren’t obsessed with being perfect.

“We’re not here to represent perfection, because none of us are perfect,” Jesy said in an interview with Hunger Magazine.

Bandmate Jade Thirlwall added that they try to see themselves as role models to aspiring singers.

“[It’s] really important. When we first got together I think we realized that there wasn’t anyone in that lane that was representing girls in a positive way without being overly sexual. I think we’ve filled that gap now. At first we worried about getting girls on our side, but thankfully they came flooding in. I think young girls need an ally in music.”

Jesy Nelson and Jake Roche haven’t discussed yet when the wedding might be, but they can likely get their pal Ed Sheeran to finish what he started and play at the ceremony.
