Groupon Appoints Ex-eBay Exec Kal Raman As New SVP of Americas

On Thursday, Groupon announced that it has appointed Kal Raman, who held executive roles at Amazon, eBay and Drugstore.com, as the Senior Vice President of the company’s Americas arm, a role that will have him overseeing Groupon’s operations in the region.

“Kal brings e-commerce and operational experience to Groupon which will benefit our customers and our merchants as we set out to become the operating system for local business,” Groupon CEO Andrew Mason was quoted as saying in the press release.

Considering that Groupon had to revise its fourth quarter earnings due to a large number of returns during the 2011 holiday season, Raman’s appointment as SVP of Groupon couldn’t have come at a better time–and he’s apparently not the only former eBay exec that the company has picked up to help steer Groupon back on track.

According to a report by Reuters, citing an internal Groupon email, the company also snatched up Faisal Masud, the former head of global delivery experience at eBay. Masud will reportedly oversee Groupon Goods, the company’s discount retailing arm, and he will be answering to Raman.

Reuters reports:

“Masud takes over from Rajen Ruparell, who was in charge of the division and will move into a global sales leadership role, Chief Executive Andrew Mason said in the email.”
