Bed Bugs Confirmed At Popular Wisconsin Dells Hotel, After 2 Dance Coaches Book Infested Room

Bed bugs have been confirmed at a popular Wisconsin Dells hotel, after two-high school dance coaches were infested with the nasty critters.

What was to be a fun time for the two women ended up being an unpleasant experience at the Chula Vista Resort, one of the most popular area hotels. At first, Katie Madaus believed she had mosquito bites.

“I kind of noticed ‘Oh man I have a lot of mosquito bites’,” Madus, who was at the Dells for a dance camp, told NBC 15 News.

It was not mosquitoes, but the nasty bed bugs bites that afflicted Madus and her roommate. After calling the front desk, a hotel employee confirmed the room was infested.

“After we found out we were busy dealing with it away from our team for quite a while, moving our things, getting our things dry cleaned, trying to deal with how we were going to be compensated,” Madaus said.

According to this Facebook post from her friend, Katie Campbell Gatlin, early Saturday morning, the situation hasn’t been fully addressed.

“Please note:

?”#?ChulaVistaResort? has not resolved the matter involving Katie and I, which they reported to both news stations. We still don’t have questions answered and we still feel violated and disturbed by the lack of attention to our situation.

“Yes, they did comply with the Sauk County Health Department but if they were on top of the bed bug issue and being proactive, we wouldn’t have encountered it in the first place.

“How long were the bed bugs in our room and how long did the resort know about it?”

However, according to the health manager for the South Central Environment Health Consortium, they received a criminal complaint on this matter on Thursday. When they arrived to inspect the Chula Vista Resort Friday morning, a heat treatment for the bed bugs was already being completed.

In addition, the manager said Chula Vista Resort complied with authorities and took proper measures to correct the unfortunate situation with the bed bugs. According to Madus, they were refunded for the rooms they booked and said the hotel agreed to cover any added expenses they had.

“We had dance camp this week at Chula Vista and our room was infested with bed bugs. Typically I would not post this if the resort was responsive and empathic, but they were not. Katie, after going to the doctor, found out she had an allergic reaction and is in a steroid and topical cream.

“We still had a blast with our team, but please know you can ask the hotel to check for bed bugs and they are required to do so. The first picture is the fecal matter of bed bugs and the second is the bites. Please beware!”

The manager said so far this year there have been three complaints about bed bugs at the Chula Vista Resort, which he says is not a large number for a hotel that size. But for Katie Campbell Gatlin, it’s a matter of educating people about their rights when they book a hotel room.

UPDATE: An official with the Chula Vista Resort had no additional comments after Katie Campbell Gatlin suggested the hotel was not sympathetic following the bed bugs in the room, when the Inquisitr reached out to the hotel via phone. The official insisted everything they were required to do was done.
