"Well, the moment so many of you have been waiting for is finally here where I can tell you that it's zombie killing season for the Jovovich-Anderson clan!" Milla wrote. "I leave to South Africa tomorrow to start prepping for the movie! #residentevilmovie #ladiary."
As has been the case with the previous Resident Evil installments, Jovovich will join husband and director Paul W.S. Anderson on the final Resident Evil film, which has had production delayed due to Milla's recent pregnancy, reports UPI. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is now scheduled for a September 2, 2016 theatrical release.
For those new to the franchise, the Red Queen began her assault on humanity with 2002's Resident Evil with brain-washed amnesiac Alice, played by Milla Jovovich heading up the team in search of a vaccine for the T-virus deep within the deepest levels of the Umbrella Corporation's labyrinth.
Resident Evil: Apocalypse tasked Alice and friends with escaping Raccoon City, home to the insidious Umbrella Corporation, which has become infested with zombies and with abominations created by the Umbrella Corporation's geneticists. Alice is burdened with rescuing the daughter of one of those geneticists, as her team tries to evacuate before the city is destroyed via a nuclear bomb.
Milla Jovovich again returned in 2007's Resident Evil: Extinction, where she stumbles upon a group of survivors making their way across the Nevada desert on their way to Alaska, where the last remnants of human civilization have been rumored to have relocated. Alice and company find themselves defending against attacks from zombies as well as from the nefarious leaders of the Umbrella Corporation.
Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) picks up with Alice and the survivors from the previous film continuing their journey to Alaska, where the mysterious "Arcadia" survivor's camp awaits, only to find themselves held up in their journey, when they discover survivors holed up in a prison. The prison has become home to survivors also on their way to Arcadia, but trapped by infected zombies surrounding the prison.
Milla Jovovich's fifth return to the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), pitted her character Alice against the Umbrella Corporation, as she once again awoke to find herself trapped within one of their testing facilities.
