Could it be that the latest news about Justin Bieber and One Direction getting together is more than an April Fools Day prank? Despite the interest fans have in seeing them join up, One Direction and Justin Bieber may not ever merge musically — unless it is the form of a new app.
Although there has been talk of a collaboration between the two entities since early 2012 — is this the year something will actually happen?
The Mirror reported on June 21, 2012, that Justin Bieber said about 1D, “The One Direction guys are great. We have a lot of fun whenever we hang out. They came over my house and we were just chilling out around the pool and listening to music. We were talking about me collaborating with them on a song on their next album. It’s gonna be great.”
In the meantime, there has not been much news about a collaboration from either One Direction and Justin Bieber — but all of that could change.
First of all, managers for both Justin Bieber and One Direction have decided to invest $20 million into an “artist-to-fan” app, according to a July 16 report by Billboard Magazine.
The new Bkstg app is initially aimed at musicians like Justin Bieber and One Direction. Bkstg’s target musician is anyone who wants to sell everything they have to offer fans in one place — as well as “social platforms” for direct fan interactions.
Nevertheless, once Justin Bieber and One Direction get a chance to be more direct with fans via the new Bkstg app — will fans just ask them to join up and start making music (like they’ve always wanted)?
On April 2, Cambio reported that Justin Bieber got his fans and the One Direction army riled up when he joked on Twitter that he was going to replace Zayn Malik in One Direction.
Fans were heartbroken to learn that it was a joke because many One Direction and Justin Bieber fans have wanted them to join forces for a long time.
However, in the previous week before dropping his April Fools Day prank, Justin Bieber and Liam Payne were fighting — and it was not the first time.
According to an insider source, Hollywood Life reports that at the Brit Awards on February 19, 2014, One Direction teased Justin Bieber on stage because “[t]hey’re on Team Selena [Gomez] because they’ve heard all the stories from her friends and have gotten a really bad impression of Justin Bieber.”
By March 2015, Justin Bieber had been arrested multiple times, and Liam Payne made a point of publicly teasing Justin all over again.
How bad was the situation between Justin Bieber and One Direction? Billboard Magazine reported the following on March 23.
“When an apparent Ariana Grande fan responded to Payne’s post, asking him if it’s depressing that Justin Bieber will always be more successful than him, Liam Payne responded asking her how many times he’s been arrested.”
What makes the fight between Justin Bieber and Liam Payne interesting is the timing. On March 24, about the exact moment Zayn Malik was leaving One Direction, Liam Payne and Justin Bieber were embroiled in a heated battle of words.
After that, there were few headlines about both One Direction and Justin Bieber — except when an academic analysis of fangirls was involved.
Nonetheless, when news about Louis Tomlinson’s alleged baby broke, fans were, once again, demanding that Justin Bieber and One Direction should become one.
Uproxx points out that Justin Bieber and One Direction fans are extremely tired of doing one thing — choosing sides. They state on July 17, “when referring to young male pop stars and their fans, one is most likely referring to either Justin Bieber and his Beliebers, or One Direction and their Directioners. It’s all very complicated. Bottom line, you have to pick a side… until now.”
To clarify why Justin Bieber and One Direction fans finally decided to join forces (even if their favorite musicians would not), on July 16, MTV News reported that fans of both parties started a hashtag trend on Twitter with #JustinBieberComeBackTo1D.
On top of wanting to see their favorite musicians collaborate, Justin Bieber and One Direction fans were interested in seeing the “two biggest fandoms unite.” But will there ever be a truce between Justin Bieber and One Direction?
After all, on March 27, insiders told Celeb Dirty Laundry that Justin Bieber laughed when he heard One Direction was losing Zayn Malik. As it appears, Justin Bieber’s days of having a laugh with One Direction by the pool are over.
One insider stated the following about Justin’s current opinion on 1D around the end of March.
“Justin Bieber has always hated One Direction’s holier than thou attitude. He knows that the guys are just as bad as he is and have just as many skeletons in their closets as he does – but they put on this ‘good boy persona.’ At least Justin owns up to what he does and doesn’t act like he is something he isn’t to sell his music. He thinks it is hilarious that One Direction is breaking up and falling apart.”
