40,000 Sign Petition Against Kanye West Pan American Games Performance: Can Kim Kardashian Help?

Kanye West definitely knows how to rile people up. The latest anti-Kanye event occurred as he was picked to close out the Pan American Games with a performance. Gossip Cop has the news.

“More than 40,000 people have signed a petition protesting Kanye West’s planned performance at the closing of the Pan American Games.”

Gossip Cop goes on to note that the organizers announced Wednesday that West was confirmed to be the headliner at the closing ceremony on July 26. Pitbull and Serena Ryder were revealed as co-performers, but nobody is protesting them. The petition’s mission statement on Change.org isn’t that harsh.

“The options for Toronto artists are far from limited and choosing someone like Kanye West raises several concerns among the people. Why was a local artist or group not chosen and supported, just as our local athletes are throughout the games?”

The mission statement doesn’t even mention West’s past behavior. But the fact that they aren’t protesting Pitbull and Serena Ryder, who are not Canadian either, says a lot. This isn’t the first time a Kanye West performance has been protested. CTV News quotes a recent petition to remove Kanye West from Glastonbury.

“Kanye West is an insult to music fans all over the world. We spend hundreds of pounds to attend Glasto and by doing so, expect a certain level of entertainment.”

Mr. West did end up playing Glastonbury, and even though reviews were mixed, he wasn’t booed off stage as many people had predicted. However, Adam Lambert, as well as many others, were angry that West tried to perform a version of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The performance of this on YouTube has many dislikes and some pretty harsh comments.

“I’ve heard bad karaoke versions better than this abomination,” wrote YouTube commenter Sadpants McGee

“Please tell me this is a joke. What a shameful performance,” said Sheep Sheep.

Kanye West had his defenders comment on the video as well. While it seems as if everybody hates Kanye West, that’s far from the truth; his haters are just the loudest. Time recently heralded West as a boundary breaker. They noted that West would be the first person in the world to tell you he belongs on the list, and his belief in himself is part of his appeal. It appears that Kanye West will be around for a long time in order to thrill his fans and anger his haters.
