El Chapo: Beauty Queen Wife Becomes Surveillance Target

El Chapo’s beauty queen wife has become a high-priority surveillance target. On July 11, Joaquín Guzmán Loera, AKA El Chapo, escaped from Mexico’s Federal Social Readaptation Center #1 through a mile-long tunnel. Although authorities have conducted an extensive search, the suspected drug lord’s whereabouts remain a mystery. Officials are now focusing their efforts on Guzmán’s wife, Emma Coronel.

Joaquín Guzmán Loera and Emma Coronel were married on her 18th birthday in 2007. In 2011, El Chapo and his beauty queen wife became the parents of twin girls. When he isn’t playing the role of father and husband, Joaquín Guzmán Loera is the suspected head of the Sinaloa Cartel. He is considered by many to be one of the most powerful and dangerous drug lords in the world.

He is currently wanted by the Attorney General of Mexico and the United States Drug Enforcement Agency on multiple charges related to drug trafficking and organized crime.

Emma Coronel Guzmán, a citizen of the United States, was crowned Coffee and Guava Queen in 2007. Although she stopped competing in pageants following her marriage to El Chapo, she is still revered for her beauty and grace.

The pairing may seem unlikely, but Coronel is no stranger to organized crime. As reported by Daily Mail, the 26-year-old woman’s father, Inés Coronel, allegedly has strong ties to the Sinaloa Cartel.

According to reports, the pairing of El Chapo and his beauty queen wife was “a calculated move to bind the ties between the cartel’s central families.”

Joaquín Guzmán Loera was originally arrested in June 1993. Although he was convicted on numerous charges and sentenced to 20 years in prison, he escaped Mexico’s Federal Social Readaptation Center #2 in January 2001.

El Chapo managed to evade federal, state, and local authorities for 13 years. However, he was eventually traced to a hotel in Mazatlán, where he was captured and detained.

As reported by Rolling Stone, Guzmán was held in a maximum security cell for five months. Despite the heightened security measures, the suspected drug lord managed to escape through an underground tunnel — which was constructed following his February arrest.

Although his current location is unknown, authorities are closely monitoring El Chapo’s beauty queen wife for any suspicious behavior. As the couple is still married, and the children are currently with their mother, officials believe Guzmán will eventually try to make contact.
