Nikki Reed Hospitalized: ‘Twilight’ Actress Rushed To Hospital For Dehydration And Exhaustion

Nikki Reed, hospitalized for dehydration and exhaustion, is apparently doing much better.

The Twilight actress and new wife to Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder had to be rushed to a San Diego hospital after falling ill at Comic-Con on Thursday, July 16. She originally told the doctors that she was suffering from throat problems, which they later contributed to dehydration and exhaustion from overworking through a series of tests.

A source close to the 27-year-old actress told New York Daily News Confidenti@l that Nikki thought she had gotten sick because she had been flying so much lately.

“Nikki said that it was probably because she’s been flying so much for work. She’s been to 20 cities in eight days for work obligations,” explained the source.

Nikki was hospitalized and kept overnight for observation, and upon being discharged, flew to Atlanta to spend the night with Somerhalder, who is currently filming there. Despite being in the hospital a couple days prior, Reed got up the next morning and headed to Nashville to attend a launch party for Bonnie Rose white whisky.

According to the source, Nikki “was a bit more soft-spoken” after her hospital stay, but “danced to country music performances and sipped on Bonnie Rose cocktails.”

In other Nikki Reed news, the actress recently announce that she would be joining Sleepy Hollow for their third season, and she will be playing the part of Betsy Ross. Variety first confirmed that Reed would be taking on the role as the Ross, known best for sewing America’s first flag. However, in the show, she plays a secret operative with George Washington’s ring of spies.

“We are all very excited to welcome Nikki Reed into the world of Sleepy Hollow,” co-creator and executive producer Len Wiseman told the Hollywood Reporter. “Nikki’s the perfect choice to bring a smart and sexy edge to our show’s twisted version of American icon, Betsy Ross.”

Nikki’s casting comes after character Ichabod Crane, played by Tom Mison, alluded to having a fling with the seamstress in the first two seasons. Nikki will join The Glades alum Clifton Campbell, who will be filling in after showrunner Mark Goffman’s departure.

Reed’s other screen credits include The Sunday Horse, Thirteen, Scout and Balls Out.
